MRO: Jed Lamb slapped with ban over contact

CARLTON’S Jed Lamb is set to miss next Sunday’s clash with Hawthorn after match review officer Michael Christian slapped him with a one-game ban for making unnecessary contact with the eye region of Saint Jade Gresham during the Blues’ humiliating loss on Friday night.

The ugly incident happened during a heated second term with Lamb wrestling with Gresham for several minutes well off the ball in the Saints’ forward line.

While some media commentators, including Danny Frawley, called for Lamb to sent directly to the tribunal, Christian deemed it “unreasonable/unnecessary”, but set the penalty at one game.

Lamb was cleared over another matter immediately after the scuffle. He made contact with his knee, but Christian’s view was that “there was insufficient force” for a charge to be laid.

Frawley had called Lamb’s actions “stupid” on radio on Friday night, saying: “He knew exactly what he was doing. He will get weeks for that.”
