The best Andrew Gaff SuperCoach replacements, best scores and teams from Round 20

THIS is why we hold our trades. For more than 30,000 SuperCoach players, Andrew Gaff is no longer an option. We rate the best replacements. Plus, the top scores and teams from Round 20.

THIS is why we hold our trades.

For more than 30,000 SuperCoach players with Andrew Gaff in their midfield, his brutal brain fade could not have come at a worse time.

Even if he wasn’t bound for a certain lengthy tribunal ban, you would almost be duty-bound to give him the boot to send a strong message that actions like that are not tolerated anywhere in footy, including SuperCoach.

So for those players the question is who to replace him with.

Gaff is the ninth-highest scoring player in SuperCoach this year but is priced at $517,700 which likely puts super scorers Tom Mitchell, Patrick Cripps, Patrick Dangerfield, Josh Kelly and Clayton Oliver out of reach (if not grab one of them and ignore the list below).

Of the remaining options, here are our top picks:

Jack Macrae at Western Bulldogs training.

1. JACK MACRAE ($551,400, Mid)

You’ll need some cash in the bank but remember this is a guy who averaged almost 170 for about a month but ticking over very nicely with scores of 147 and 121 in his past two. Faces North Melbourne, Carlton and Richmond in the final three games.

2. GARY ABLETT ($526,200, Mid)

Maybe it’s romance, but wouldn’t it be great to bring the best SuperCoach player of all time in now and see him lift the cup in three weeks. But seriously, look at the fixture. Gazza absolutely loves playing Hawthorn, averaging 135 against them across his career, then faces Fremantle and old club Gold Coast in the final two games, both at the Cattery. Get on.

3. DUSTIN MARTIN ($506,600, Mid)

Were you one of the many coaches to jump off Dusty? It could be time to get back on as the Tigers’ draw opens up — he’s got Gold Coast this week followed by Essendon and the Bulldogs in the SuperCoach grand final. Averaging 111 over his past three.

4. MATT CROUCH ($517,700, Mid)

Took a while to warm up but is now at peak 2017 scoring, going over 110 three weeks in a row. Even when he has a bad game he scores 80-plus.

5. LACHIE NEALE ($547,000, Mid)

After a slow start to the season he’s motoring along again, only missing the ton twice since Round 4. Has the Blues this week for what will be a sudden-death final for many — remember what Josh Kelly did to them.

6. SAM MENEGOLA ($486,500, Mid-Fwd)

Has hit form when it matters with three straight scores over 100 including 144 against the Tigers. The Cats have a great draw (especially for the final two games) and his mid-forward eligibility could be handy if we need to swing players around to cover any more unexpected outs.

7. JOEL SELWOOD ($466,200, Mid)

One for gamblers - or players who need cash left over to fix another problem in their team. His scores (and price) have dropped as Chris Scott experimented with more time in defence but he was back in the coalface when it mattered last Friday night, smashing out a 159. And have we mentioned Geelong’s fixture?
