SuperCoaches must consider trading in Pies point-of-difference Scott Pendlebury

No midfielder has scored more SuperCoach points than Collingwood star Scott Pendlebury in the past three rounds. Owned by just 3.9 per cent of coaches, this is week to jump on up against a favourable opponent. ALL THE RD 8 PODS

Swans look to rebuild

We don’t like to toot our own horn at point-of-difference (POD) HQ, but if you took our advice last week, you would be laughing all the way to the bank.

Our list of SuperCoach unique picks was headlined by none other than Coleman Medal leader Jeremy Cameron, who dominated a weak St Kilda defence.

Those who invested in the Giants spearhead reaped the rewards, with Cameron posting a formidable 134 SuperCoach points.

It’s not too late to jump on either, having risen just $14.4k in value last week, with a favourable draw over the next month.

In-form Docker Luke Ryan was also flagged in last week’s PODwatch before punching out his second 140-plus total of the season, along with Caleb Daniel and Ben Cunnington who continue to produce the goods.

These names and a host of others should be on the radar for SuperCoaches, as going against the pack can set you apart from the rest.

Check out the best unique options ahead of Round 8:

DEFENCE

LUKE RYAN ($542,700)

Average: 108.3

Current Ownership: 2.9 per cent

Guess who’s back, back again. Luke Ryan was everywhere against the Crows, tallying 34 disposals, six marks and 145 SuperCoach points. Looms as a top six defender at the end of the year and continues to be overlooked — in under 3 per cent of sides.

BRAD SHEPPARD ($482,500)

Average: 95.3

Current Ownership: 1.5 per cent

Is it time to take Brad Sheppard seriously as a SuperCoach option? Previously a pure lockdown defender, Sheppard has been given more freedom in 2019, averaging 21 touches, eight marks and 95.3 SuperCoach points per game. He has surpassed 86 points in every game besides their demolition at Kardinia Park, and has registered three tons in his past four matches.

CAM GUTHRIE ($375,400)

Average: 89.3

Current Ownership: 0.6 per cent

Here is one from left field. Cam Guthrie has come back into the Cats line-up after returning from injury and has been notable, collecting 22.7 touches, 7.3 tackles and 89.3 points across three games. Appears to be getting a decent amount of midfield time, which gives him plenty of appeal at his discount price. Rose $29.3k last week and has another low break even of 39.

MIDFIELD

BEN CUNNINGTON ($559,600)

Average: 113.6

Current Ownership: 1.6 per cent

It’ll be difficult to see how Ben Cunnington stays out of this weekly list if he continues to deliver on the SuperCoach front. The Roos bull produced another fruitful score of 115 over the weekend, his fourth 110-plus total for the season. Still very affordable and looks to be a bona fide premium.

JOSH P. KENNEDY ($551,400)

Average: 110.5

Current Ownership: 1.2 per cent

Same story as Cunnington. Josh P. Kennedy is still in just 1.4 per cent of teams despite a remarkable start to the season. JPK has shown tremendous consistency, boasting a low score of 94 and amassing five SuperCoach tons. He has plenty of pedigree in this game and he appears to have returned to his best.

SCOTT PENDLEBURY ($543,500)

Average: 106.1

Current Ownership: 3.9 per cent

No midfielder has averaged more points over the past three rounds than Scott Pendlebury, hitting scores of 103, 138 and 127. Taylor Adams’ absence from the Pies midfield should only benefit the Pies’ skipper, who is bringing his own footy of late. Up against a favourable opposition on Saturday, this is the week to jump on. Pendlebury averages a whopping 123.6 SuperCoach points in 21 appearances against the Blues.

RUCK

TODD GOLDSTEIN ($530,600)

Average: 100.6

Current Ownership: 12.8 per cent

Goldstein sits just outside the POD bracket technically speaking, but for those after a cheaper upgrade than Gawn or Grundy, look no further. The Roos ruckman is in some promising form, averaging 107.2 SuperCoach points across his last five matches with a low score of 96. He has a fantastic run of games coming up — facing Geelong (Rhys Stanley), Sydney (Callum Sinclair), Western Bulldogs (Tim English) and Richmond (Toby Nankervis) over the next month. The big man could average 110-plus comfortably over that period.

FORWARD

JEREMY CAMERON ($527,900)

Average: 108

Current Ownership: 5.4 per cent

If you missed out on Jeremy Cameron last week, it certainly isn’t too late. The red-hot Giant has a favourable forward bye (Round 14) and like Goldstein, an enticing month ahead. GWS face bottom-six sides Hawthorn, Carlton, Melbourne and Gold Coast in their next four. Expect the spearhead to add to his already illustrious goal kicking tally and reach some monster scores.

CALEB DANIEL ($499,700)

Average: 104

Current Ownership: 5.6 per cent

Another mainstay in PODwatch each week. Caleb Daniel posted his third ton on the trot against the Tigers despite a quiet first half, tallying 36 disposals and laying six tackles on his way to 113 SuperCoach points. Looking like more of a must-have by the week, with opposition sides letting him roam free.

ROWAN MARSHALL ($438,400)

Average: 100.4

Current Ownership: 6.9 per cent

Back in the side after a bout of food poisoning, it has become abundantly clear that Rowan Marshall is St Kilda’s number one ruckman. Up against a tough opposition in Shane Mumford, Rowan scored well without recording a big hitout tally. The 23-year-old recorded 22 touches, 27 hitouts and 108 SuperCoach points — his fourth ton in four games. We have seen how valuable ruckman listed as forwards have been in SuperCoach over the years, and Marshall is still great value.
