SuperCoach Rage Trades: Who’s on the chopping block, who to buy after Round 18

He might have a history as a SuperCoach burn man, but it’s been hard to ignore Toby Greene his recent form. At less than $500,000, he might be the forward who rockets you to finals glory.

Just when we thought we were getting a finished team together, Nat Fyfe goes down injured and some top-priced premiums play stinkers.

But if you played your cards right you could be sitting on a great score this week. Either way, with finals just around the corner we must make the most of our trades!

Here’s who’s on the chopping block and shopping list after Round 18.

BOOT HIM

Shane Mumford

Mumford returned to the GWS side this week after missing the past two and the more than 11,000 coaches that held him would have been sadly disappointed. He is still giving away too many free kicks and he is just not getting the job done. He must be moved out of your team and fast.

Jack Ziebell

Two scores under 70 in a row has the alarm bells ringing for Ziebell owners. The worrying sign was that he spent some time up forward against the Lions, which is what ruined his scoring early in the year. If this continues, we can expect more of these sub-par scores from Jack.

Jordan De Goey

Since Collingwood’s bye De Goey has had just the one score over 100. The remainder haven’t gone over 85 with a 69 against the Giants putting his five-round average at 73. Everyone expected big things from him, but he just isn’t delivering. Try to upgrade him to someone that is getting the job done like Toby Greene.

LATE MAIL: ALL HAIL NEW KING OF SUPERCOACH

Alex Sexton

Sexton is in nearly 2 per cent of teams but shouldn’t be. His 64 this week was his best since Round 13. He isn’t providing you much and there are even better rookie bench cover options out there. I’m not sure why he is in this many teams, but I am sure he will drop out of a few more this week.

Alex Witherden

If you have been holding Witherden all this time in the hope that he will pay dividends it may be time to use a luxury trade (if you have any) to upgrade him. He hasn’t scored over 100 all season and has just six scores over 90. His 69 this week may have lost you a match-up and with finals just around the corner you can’t afford those types of scores.

James Sicily

Recently people were jumping on him but now he has given us a 60 and a 77 in the last two weeks and just one score over 100 in the last six weeks. He did have a tough day standing Hawkins but we need him to score more to warrant his spot in our team.

Angus Brayshaw

We have been saying for a while now that it is time to get rid of him but there is still just under 10% of teams that still have him. Unless you have no trades left you need to upgrade him.

BUY HIM

Zach Merrett

Merrett couldn’t make his break even (129) against the Crows which means he’ll come down in price again, making him a steal at under $500k. He has the ability to go 120-plus like he did this week he could be a solid buy option for those without much cash in the bank.

Toby Greene

Toby showed that last week’s great score was no fluke. He is relishing the extra midfield time that he is getting with Kelly and Coniglio out of the side as well as drifting forward to kick goals. He is still priced well under $500k and could be the difference for you in the finals.

Brad Crouch

Best score of the season for Crouch this week and coming off a couple of low scores he sits in the low $500k range, which makes him ripe for the picking. He is a great option as he took control of the Crows midfield and has been consistently racking up plenty of touches.

Ed Curnow

This is four scores in a row over 100 for Ed, with the past three over 110. He is an option for those that are really struggling for dollars. He is around the $500k mark but offers great value. Beware he has had four games in the 30s this year but his form since the bye has been outstanding.

Jarryd Lyons

What an amazing run he is on. Lyons is averaging a touch under 120 since the bye and had his best score this week by far. Three of his last four have been over 130 now. With all of the attention going to Lachie Neale and Dayne Zorko, rivals are leaving Lyons to run riot through the midfield — he had a huge 13 clearances this week!

Clayton Oliver

Oliver has been on a great run with just one poor score in the last seven which came last week. Other than that he has six over 100 and five over 110. He is not going to be a cheap buy but he is a great option for your side. With Brayshaw not scoring it leaves plenty of ball for Oliver.

Elliot Yeo

After a few low scores Yeo has now put a couple of big scores in and has brought his price right down. He is a proven scorer and if he now has those low scores out of his system then he is more than worth a selection. At just over $500k you will get value for money.

WATCH FOR ANOTHER WEEK

These guys aren’t buys or boots just yet, but we should be keeping a close eye on.

Rory Laird

Probably not a player that you will look to drop but if you have luxury trades up your sleeve you may want to consider him. He hasn’t been over 100 in his past four games and with Brodie Smith dominating this game from a Crows scoring perspective, Laird may just take a back seat for the rest of the season. His price will fall further from $491,500 but it’s just a $40K jump to a bottomed-out Lachie Whitfield. If you need to make a move to win a match-up, Laird could be the one you trade to try and get the edge.

Robbie Gray

We have seen this from him before. In fact, in his past four weeks he has had two scores over 100 and two scores in the 60s. This is always the risk with him. At this stage though you probably need to hold him unless you have a heap of luxury trades.

Luke Ryan

Returned to form with his best outing since before his bye. Early in the season he went on a great run of scoring and if this 117 is the start of the next one, we want to get on him early. However, just wait for next week to see if he can back this up. If he does then it will be time to jump on given his price is still going to be around the $450K mark, meaning he could be reachable from a Duursma for you with not much extra cash needed in the trade.

Tim Kelly

If he wasn’t capable of a massive score we would say trade him but with three scores in the 70s now in the last five weeks he is starting to be a liability in your team. If you think that this is the end of his great scoring then you may want to look for another option.

Marcus Bontempelli

Only mentioned here because he has had two under 100 in a row and this was his lowest of the season. Don’t go trading him out just yet but keep him on your radar if you don’t have him as his price will come down with this score.

TIME TO TRADE

Liam Baker — BE 102, scored 69

Baker came back into the side this week but may not stay there. His job security isn’t great and hence he isn’t a great option for your line-up.

Jordan Clark BE 52 scored 50

While he only just missed his BE he isn’t one of the key bench cover guys, he has had some good scores recently but for some reason we just don’t trust him as much as some others.

Tom Atkins BE 83 scored 29

May not hold his spot but if he does he won’t score enough to be on your bench.

Jay Lockhart BE 95 scored 18

Just five touches for Jay this week which means his position in the Demons side may be at risk let alone being at risk in your team. Time to trade him.

LOSING MONEY BUT YOU CAN HOLD

Sydney Stack — BE 85, scored 68.

Hold him, he is scoring well and will stay in that side for now. Great bench cover.

Connor Rozee — BE 89, scored 56

Another player that doesn’t seem to be leaving his side soon. He may miss one on the run home, but that would be about it. Reasonable bench cover.

Zac Butters — BE 78, scored 62

Just behind Stack and Rozee for safety. He scored OK this week but I don’t know that his role in the side is as stable as Rozee.

Xavier Duursma — BE 98, scored 81

While he scored the best of the Power rookies, I am worried about job security given he was dropped the previous week. Hopefully it was just a rest. He is a good one to hold because of the dual-position eligibility.

Tarryn Thomas — BE 79, scored 72

Only just missed his BE and is scoring well and getting games. Well worth a hold.

Nick Blakey — BE 70, scored 60

With Blakey’s price sitting just under $300K there isn’t much value there for you unless you have a big bank to use to upgrade him. He is getting a regular game and scoring reasonably well, so he is good to hold for the bench.

Callum Wilkie BE 80 scored 77

Wilkie’s scoring has been pretty consistent of late and his spot in the side doesn’t seem to be in jeopardy so hold him if you have held him for this long.

Nick Hind BE 49 scored 49

He is still going well but I think there are better options as your bench cover.

Matt Parker BE 59 scored 49

If you have held him all this time then you may not want to trade him out, he doesn’t have a great deal of value for you. The biggest risk is his place in the team.

Bailey Smith BE 71 scored 53

Smith’s position in the side is solid and his previous three scores have been good. If he is your option as backup cover then it is a good option for you.

ROOKIES ON THE BUBBLE

Ian Hill — scores of 60 and 60

Very consistent from Hill in his first two games! He seems to be doing all of the right things to keep his place in the side. If you need a downgrade to get some cash in the bank for other moves then he could be your guy. He’s DPP too which is a bonus.

Jake Stein — scores of 74 and 34

Given that there were four weeks between his first and second games and that he was the lowest-scorer for the Giants in his second game I wouldn’t be looking at bringing him in to your side. Job security just isn’t there for him.
