SuperCoach late mail: Injury news, full scores for Round 18

A dreaded Sunday late change has hit more than 50,000 SuperCoach teams as West Coast skipper Shannon Hurn pulls out of the clash against Melbourne. How long will he miss?

West Coast has made a massive late change for its match against Melbourne.

Captain Shannon Hurn is out with a calf injury.

Hurn leaves more than 53,000 SuperCoach players stranded. With an average of 108.5, he is the third-ranked defender for the season.

His place in the team has been taken by Francis Watson, who will make his AFL debut.

The Eagles are yet to provide details of Hurn’s prognosis but a calf injury has alarm bells ringing.

KING GRUNDY REIGNS SUPREME

There are five rounds to go, but we’re calling it — no one is going to catch Brodie Grundy as the No.1 SuperCoach player of 2019.

The Magpies ruckman turned in another incredible performance on Saturday night, capping his 31-disposal game against GWS with a 70m goal in the dying seconds.

SCROLL DOWN TO SEE EVERY ROUND 18 SUPERCOACH SCORE

The goal boosted his SuperCoach score to 157, his fourth 150-plus return of the season. His five-game average is an insane 149.2.

Grundy entered the round with a 187-point lead over this year’s No.1 scorer Lachie Neale, and the margin is now 246 after Neale scored 98 in Brisbane’s win against North Melbourne on Saturday night.

Making Grundy even more valuable is the fact he hasn’t missed a game in the past two seasons.

Forget captaincy loopholes, just whack the “C” on the Magpies big man.

Grundy is set to finish the season as the highest-scoring player in SuperCoach for the second year in a row. He’s got a few years to catch SuperCoach GOAT Gary Ablett, but he’s on his way.

HOW LONG WILL FYFE MISS?

Fremantle is hopeful Nat Fyfe will miss only one match after spending several days in hospital this week.

But a return date remains up in the air.

The Dockers captain required treatment to an infected right elbow. It’s the same elbow Fyfe needed surgery on in February to treat a painful bursa.

“Nat required a short stay in hospital to treat an infection in his right elbow via an antibiotic drip,” Freo football manager Peter Bell said.

“Unfortunately, due to the recovery period required, Nat will not be available to play against Sydney on Saturday.

“Our medical staff will continue to monitor Nat’s progress to determine a return to playing time frame as soon as possible.”

Fyfe’s SuperCoach average of 119.9 is the fifth-best in the competition this season but he has continued his tradition of never completing a full season that dates back to his debut year in 2010.

Most of his 93,288 owners will stick him on the bench and cross their fingers for a quick recovery.

The Dockers have also made a late change for their clash against the Swans, with Stephen Hill replaced by Ethan Hughes.

WILL THE BONT PLAY?

Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge is confident star Marcus Bontempelli will recover from an ankle injury to face St Kilda on Sunday.

Bontempelli sat out most of the second quarter in the Bulldogs’ win against Melbourne last Sunday.

Caleb Daniel and Tom Liberatore have to get through training to show they are ready to return from injury.

“We’re pretty confident (about Marcus),” Beveridge told reporters on Friday.

“It’s settled well, and because there’s no real instability there that just gives you confidence it’ll be okay.

“(Caleb and Tom) just need to get a good session today under their belt.

“If they get through, they’re most likely going to be playing on Sunday.”

The Dogs have also made a late change, with Ed Richards out. Will Hayes has taken his place in the squad.
