SuperCoach late mail: Patrick Dangerfield posts the second lowest SuperCoach score of his career

Superstar Patrick Dangerfield has hurt more than 140,000 coaches, producing the second-lowest SuperCoach score of his lofty career. But Patrick Cripps put on the Superman cape. SUPERCOACH HEROES AND VILLAINS

Patrick Dangerfield had a game he’d like to forget against the Bombers.

Superstar Patrick Dangerfield had a SuperCoach nightmare in Geelong’s imposing win against the Bombers, hurting more than 140,000 teams.

The 29-year-old posted the second-lowest SuperCoach score of his career, tallying a meagre nine disposals and 26 SuperCoach points.

TRADE GRADES: BEST AND WORST OF ROUND 7

SUPERCOACH PODS: TIME TO GET JEZZA CAMERON?

Dangerfield went off twice in the first half with separate injury complaints but re-emerged on both occasions. He bided his time up forward noticeably affected, on ground for 80 per cent of the game.

Earlier, Blues bull Patrick Cripps came home with a wet sail after a shocking first quarter. Cripps scored a whopping 119 points after the first break to reach a solid captain’s score of 123.

Meanwhile, coaches hoping for a late recall for Geelong’s rookie midfielder Charlie Constable will be disappointed after he lined up in the VFL today.

The Cats threw a curve ball when skipper Joel Selwood (soreness) withdrew on Saturday, adding Constable to their emergencies and opening the door for a possible late call-up.

But any hopes of a late recall were dashed when he lined up in the state league against Essendon.

The 19-year-old was rested two weeks ago but has been a revelation after making his debut earlier this season, averaging 22 disposals and 81.4 SuperCoach points per game.

Brandan Parfitt was included in Selwood’s place.

The Cats made another late change on the eve of the game with Zach Tuohy pulling out. His place has been taken by Zach Guthrie.

Essendon made a late change, replacing Orazio Fantasia (illness) with Kyle Langford.

Late mail: No late changes

Heroes: You’ve got to feel for the coaches who traded out Zac Williams to bring in Lachie Whitfield a few weeks ago. With Whitfield missing after copping a cork in last week’s win over Sydney, Williams racked up 140 points in a supreme performance. Fellow defender Nick Haynes was outstanding with 132, while spearhead Jeremy Cameron again proved himself as one of the most reliable forwards this year with 134 points. Young ruckman Rowan Marshall managed his fourth hundred in five games this season, amassing a team-high 108. Jackson Hately (85) will be a popular bubble boy next week after two great scores to start his career.

Villains: Only 76 points for Jack Billings, who has hit a wall after a fast start to the season. Toby Greene was kept to 72 for the Giants, although his ownership dipped significantly after he spent several weeks on the sidelines with injury. Stephen Coniglio (87) had a break even of 105 coming into this game and could be available for close to $500,000 in a few weeks. That price will be almost impossible to ignore.

MELBOURNE V HAWTHORN

Late mail: No late changes

Heroes: Max Gawn produced a typical Max Gawn game, rattling past 100 SuperCoach points early in the last quarter and eventually logging a game-high 127. James Harmes (116) joined him in triple figures with a crucial late goal, putting the Demons 10 points clear with about six minutes to play. Jack Gunston played one of his best games of the year and finished with 99 points, while defender Blake Hardwick was Hawthorn’s top scorer with 107.

Villains: Those who traded in James Sicily this week courtesy of his 84 break even would have been cursing when he only posted 80 points after scores of 119, 117 and 127 in the past three weeks. He’ll almost certainly be available for less than $550,000 again in a few weeks. Chad Wingard (49) is spending too much time forward to be a relevant SuperCoach option this year. Angus Brayshaw (68) has given the coaches who started him a few headaches and the time might have come to consider alternatives.

BRISBANE LIONS V SYDNEY SWANS

Late mail: No late changes

Heroes: Welcome back Dayne Zorko. While it’s been an indifferent start to 2019 for the Lions captain, he was in everything against the Swans and inspired his side to victory. Zorko finished with 128 SuperCoach points from a game where he had 29 disposals and 11 tackles. His score was almost matched by Hugh McCluggage (126), while ruckman Stefan Martin posted 117. Lachie Neale had 108 to continue his superb run, while Mitch Robinson (104) topped the ton again. George Hewett (154) was the top scorer on the ground despite being on the wrong end of the result.

Villains: Disappointment for the thousands of Isaac Heeney owners as he fell out of the game in the second half and only managed 68 points, less than forward rookie Matt Parker’s 71. Heeney was on track for 100 at halftime but failed to fire after the main break. Hard to fault the effort of most of the other big guns although those who went with Zak Jones as a point of difference trade had to settle for 62.

WESTERN BULLDOGS V RICHMOND

Late mail: No late changes

Hero: The Bont wasn’t the only one to enjoy a big night. Sydney Stack is SuperCoach gold, with the Rising Star contender putting together another big score. Stack finished with 103 points and given his breakeven was -25, he is set for another MASSIVE price rise this week. There are 52,564 very happy SuperCoaches out there.

Villain: He started the season in a blaze of glory but has Libba come back to the pack? Tom Liberatore once again struggled to put together a big number, finishing with 58 points. This is now three weeks in a row he has failed to crack triple figures.

Late mail: Tom Hickey replaced by Nathan Vardy

Hero: It was a big night for Andrew Gaff, who continues to impress since coming back from his suspension. Gaff was just shy of the ton at half time and finished with an impressive 154 points. Pencil him in for three Brownlow votes. It was also a welcome return to form for Jack Darling, who scored 132 after finishing with 31 in the previous two weeks.

Villain: It was a tough night at the office for most of the Suns, including co-captain David Swallow. He could muster just 58 points while five Suns ended the match with less than 50.

CARLTON V NORTH MELBOURNE

Late change: Luke McDonald replaced by Sam Wright

Heroes: Patrick Cripps’ (123) put on his SuperCoach cape after quarter time, scoring 119 from thereon to deliver a decent captain’s total. Spearhead Ben Brown (131) raised the SuperCoach bat before half time with all of his four goals coming in the first half. Todd Goldstein (107) and Ben Cunnington (114) were prominent while Trent Dumont (139) had a career high 38 touches, topping the scoring chart. Cash cow Sam Walsh (89) had a quiet second half but still reached a promising total.

Villains: It took a resurgence from Cripps reach a captains knock, but his first quarter is the real villain here. Those who whacked the ‘C’ on him were left in fear after Cripps had just two ineffective handballs and four SuperCoach points in the opening stanza. Michael Gibbons (55) went backwards after booting a goal in the third quarter, while those who went a week early on Nick Larkey (40) were left hurting. Harry McKay (6) had a day he’d like to forget.

GEELONG V ESSENDON

Late changes: Orazio Fantasia (illness) replaced by Kyle Langford for Essendon. Zachy Tuohy replaced by Zach Guthrie for Geelong.

Heroes: All the heroes came from the Cats today, with POD Mitch Duncan (118) leading the way. Popular forward Tim Kelly (120) had another strong outing, while Gary Ablett (112) continues to turn back the clock. Rookies Gryan Miers (92) and Tom Atkins (87) are set to show their owners the money.

Villains: Patrick Dangerfield (26) wouldn’t have appeared many times in this column, and this was up there with one of his worst SuperCoach performances. The Cats superstar posted the second-lowest SuperCoach total of his career, going off with injury twice but managing to play out the game. For the Bombers, premium Zach Merrett (94) failed to hit the ton for the second straight week. Cash cow Jordan Clark (41) failed to fire in his return while Devon Smith (60) continues to struggle.

Heroes: Reilly O’Brien’s (123) price is set to shoot through the roof after the ruckman led all comers for his side. POD defender Luke Ryan (145) punched out another monster score, while David Mundy (137) and Nat Fyfe (124) were both prolific for the Dockers. Rory Sloane (111) came home with a wet sail after helping his over the line.

Villains: The Crouch brothers had a whopping 70 disposals between them – but that yielded just 176 SuperCoach points. Scaling came back to hurt Matt (97) and Brad (79) yet again, winning most of their possessions in the first half and not when the game was on the line. Dockers barometer Michael Walters (71) lifted late but it wasn’t enough to get him to a reasonable score, while Jesse Hogan (29) struggled throughout.
