From the most popular trade moves to score and price projections, a 35-year-old KFC SuperCoach bolter and a crazy Jack Ziebell stat, here are the 11 key stats you need to know ahead of Round 7.

1. Not surprisingly Josh Dunkley, Lachie Neale and Dustin Martin account for the bulk of KFC SuperCoach trades this week — collectively the trio has already been moved on from more than 50,000 teams (although there is a good case for holding Martin until he returns from concussion). They aren’t the only players on the chopping block, though. Jordan Clark and Braeden Campbell, who both burnt coaches after starting as the medical sub in Round 6, have each been traded out of more than 2000 teams and 1558 coaches have run out of patience with Patrick Cripps and hit the trade button.

2. Jack Macrae is by far the most popular replacement for Neale, but coaches are split on who to trade dual-position star Dunkley to, with Dayne Zorko, Jack Ziebell, Toby Greene and Jarman Impey all popular picks. Just over 1000 coaches have traded Neale to No.2 draft pick Riley Thilthorpe, who scored 91 on debut last round. Teammate Sam Walsh is the most popular replacement for Cripps (230 trades) followed by Macrae, Anzac medallist Darcy Parish and Cat Mitch Duncan. Forty-five brave coaches have traded Cripps to Port Adelaide one-gamer Martin Frederick.

3. The KFC SuperCoach popularity chart is set for a major shake-up in the coming weeks. Sydney youngster Errol Gulden has been at No.1 for weeks and was in 71.3 per cent of teams for Round 6. But after a season-low score of 38, he’s starting to feature in trade plans for many. Dustin Martin was at No.2 in 65.9 per cent of teams, but that is set to take a big hit, while No.3 James Rowe (59.6 per cent) is also testing coaches’ patience. The big winners on this score could be Kangaroos Tom Powell — one rookie we can keep picking with confidence — and Jack Ziebell, who round out the top five. Watch this space.

4. Scroll down to the other end of the popularity ladder and there are some interesting names. Crow Bean Keays is averaging 102 points a game with a high of 152 yet is in just 1 per cent of KFC SuperCoach teams. That’s more than Tom Liberatore (0.8 per cent, av 98), Hugh Greenwood (0.7 per cent, av 95), Jacob Hopper (0.6 per cent, av 98) and Ed Curnow (0.4 per cent, av 101). And there is no love for former KFC SuperCoach favourite Josh P Kennedy. He’s in just 638 teams (0.4 per cent) despite boasting a three-round average of 110. POD anyone?

5. Tom Highmore still boasts the lowest break even in KFC SuperCoach of -68 and seems a bit closer to playing a third AFL game after being named as an emergency for St Kilda last round. Jacob Koschitzke is the big mover on the break even chart, plunging into the negatives after his five-goal game against the Crows. With a BE of -48, Kosi is projected to score 56 against the Saints this week and jump $45,000 in value — and he’ll still have a negative BE the next week. Gold Coast bubble boy Jy Farrar has a BE of -35, Kangaroos recruit At Bosenavulagi’s BE is -34 leading into his third game and new Bomber Peter Wright has turned into a surprise money-maker. He is already almost $80k up on his Round 1 price and has a lot more to make with a break even of -25 following his huge 147-point game on Anzac Day.

6. Pencil in Patrick Dangerfield and Jordan Ridley as trade targets when they return from injury. Dangerfield has a break even of 193 — the fourth-highest in KFC SuperCoach — and is projected to shed more than $40,000 when he plays his next game, but that might not be for a while. Ridley (BE 192) should return this round and if you wait for a couple of weeks you should be able to get him at a $50,000 discount. Jayden Short (BE 160), Dustin Martin (BE 153) and Jordan De Goey (BE 149) are also about to get a lot cheaper.

7. No one would have blamed you for writing off Docker David Mundy as a KFC SuperCoach option entering his 17th AFL season. But the 35-year-old is in red-hot form, incredibly putting up career-high numbers. His 117 average — 24 points a game up from last season — ranks him as the sixth-best midfielder of 2021 and the 10th top-scorer overall. After a slow-start he has the fourth-best three-round average in the comp (133), behind only Max Gawn, Jack Ziebell and Jack Macrae. And he’s in just 1 per cent of teams.

8. If you want a set and forget captain option, you can’t go past Max Gawn. Not only is Gawn the No.1 overall scorer in KFC SuperCoach this season (av 141), he hasn’t scored below 135 since Round 1 and also has a stellar record against Round 7 opponent North Melbourne. The last time Gawn faced the Roos, in Round 23 2019, he put up 212 points. He also has a 172 against Todd Goldstein in the bank from 2016 and SuperCoach Plus is projecting a 178 this weekend. Remarkably, Gawn is now $5400 more expensive than he was in Round 1, when he boasted the highest-ever starting KFC SuperCoach price tag.

9. Jack Macrae is another safe captaincy pick, scoring at least 137 points in four of his six games this season and boasting a projected score of 144 this round, second only to Gawn. Macrae has a career average of 121 from eight matches against Richmond, making the Tigers his fourth-favourite team to play against. His past three scores against them are 162, 107 and 163. If you held Jordan Ridley you will be encouraged by his projected score of 122 — let’s hope he’s cleared to play.

10. KFC SuperCoaches eyeing Clayton Oliver will be buoyed by his record at Blundstone Arena — should the match against North Melbourne go ahead in Tasmania. The Demons star scored 109 KFC SuperCoach point when the teams met in Hobart in Round 23, 2019 and dominated in their 2017 clash, registering 170 KFC SuperCoach points from 33 disposals, 12 tackles and 12 clearances. Oliver, who is still available for $596,300, has a career average of 112 against the Roos but averages 123 in games at Blundstone Arena. Only Max Gawn (165), Sam Collins (126) and Joel Selwood (124.3) have better career averages at the venues they play at in Round 7. Yes, that’s right. Sam Collins averages 126 at the MCG!

11. Forward line revelation Jack Ziebell needs a score of about 135 against the Demons to reach $600,000 after Round 7. Ziebell started the campaign at a crazy price of $257,900 and has more than exceeded expectation by being the No.2 ranked forward behind Josh Dunkley with an average of 127.3. Reborn as a defender this year and taking the kick-outs — a valuable source of KFC SuperCoach points — Ziebell has posted 155, 107, 148 and 169 in his past four matches. His score of 169 against Fremantle was the biggest KFC SuperCoach score of his 224-game career.
