KFC SuperCoach: Players in line for last round of dual-position updates in 2023

Max Gawn and Sam Walsh are in the mix again for dual-position status in KFC SuperCoach, plus some other big names. See the exclusive time in position numbers here.

KFC SuperCoach AFL: Hot & Cold Round 16

The most popular player in KFC SuperCoach could have a new position on Sunday night.

The third and final round of dual-position updates for 2023 will come into effect after lockout this round, in time to take effect in round 18.

The first two batches of DPPs – for round 6 and round 12 – included some huge KFC SuperCoach names like Jack Macrae, Jordan Dawson and Jack Ziebell.

But the final round could top the lot, with Nick Daicos in line to gain DEF-MID status on the back of a new midfield role for Collingwood. Daicos attended an average of 14 per cent of centre bounces in the first six rounds but that number has been climbing since, peaking with 81 and 62 per cent CBAs in the past two rounds.

As a result he has now spent 40 per cent of the season playing as a midfielder – well clear of the 35 per cent threshold to gain DPP. Unless he plays this week’s game against the Bulldogs exclusively in defence, the position change seems assured in a boost for the 74 per cent of teams with Daicos in their backline.

The extra flexibility means he could be switched into the midfield if needed to cover a short-term injury, or to accommodate a trade.

Three other KFC SuperCoach stars could join him with DPP, but it’s going down to the wire.

Max Gawn and Sam Walsh just missed out in round 12 and they are right on the edge again entering round 17, while Jack Sinclair could join Daicos as a DEF-MID if he can stay at 35 per cent or above next round.

Their final percentages will all come down to how each is used this weekend. There will be a close watch on the Saints v Demons game on Saturday night, while Walsh and the Blues face Fremantle in the final game of the round.

One player you can lock in for an update is Tiger Jayden Short, who has been a MID only for the first 16 rounds but has returned to the backline under new coach Andrew McQualter.
