Jack Steven (FWD, MID $361,700)
Health and fitness concerns last year but he’s made a positive start to this campaign. Played 22 games and averaged 100 points in four of the past seven seasons and must be included at the price.
Patrick Dangerfield (MID $625,500)
Among the major SuperCoach players, who can lead from start to finish. Midfield-only status no reason to dismiss after 11 scores of 127 or more last year. A safe bet.
Nakia Cockatoo (MID, FWD $148,200)
The talented 23-year-old is enjoying a good preparation after just two starts since 2018. May need the outing but he can feature at the price. Looming as the wildcard.
Tom Stewart (DEF $533,200)
Dual All-Australian finished 2019 as the second-ranked SuperCoach defender after scoring 87 or more in 18 of his 22 home-and-away matches. Will have plenty of admirers.
Brandan Parfitt (FWD, MID $427,400 )
Yet to recapture form which saw him post scores of 104, 92, 62, 168 and 94 in the opening five rounds of 2018. But he’s a likely improver with more midfield responsibility and is better than 80-point average suggests. A threat.
Mitch Duncan (MID $560,600)
Coming off a limited preparation but will feature prominently again after posting SuperCoach tons in 10 of the first 13 games of 2019. Keep in mind.
Quinton Narkle (MID $396,600)
Quiet finals series but the 22-year-old’s three minor-round appearances – scores of 123, 56 and 134 – suggest he’s a definite threat after just 12 career matches. Monitor.
Gary Ablett (FWD $519,500)
Future SuperCoach hall-of-famer averaged less than 107 for the first time since 2006 but can still figure on his day. Must be respected, given only seven 2019 forwards would’ve eclipsed his 96-point average.
Tom Hawkins (FWD $465,000)
Failed to build on super-impressive 2018, with his average falling from 102 to 86 last year. Capable of better this campaign and might feature at some stage.
Zach Tuohy (DEF $386,300)
Likely to resume permanent role in defence in 2020 and that should mean a better run. Remains in the conversation given the price.
Joel Selwood (MID $465,600)
Averaged less than three figures for the first time in 11 seasons last year but, as back-to-back scores of 124 in Geelong’s last two finals proves, he can still feature.
Gryan Miers (FWD $365,600)
Played every game in his first season and finished with 22 disposals, two goals and 108 points in the preliminary final loss to Richmond. Others might have stronger claims but he’s a likely improver this year.
Luke Dahlhaus (FWD $462,400)
Fast start to 2019, posting three consecutive SuperCoach tons but slowed, recording just four more for the year. Is capable but hard to recommend given the role.
Jordan Clark (MID $330,900)
Coming off impressive first-up effort, which saw the smart ball-user pass the 80-point mark in five of his 19 debut-season matches. Is a likely improver but it’s hard to make a case at the price.
Rhys Stanley (RUCK $467,300)
Has been a threat for some time, posting another five SuperCoach tons last year but he lacks the class of the others in the ruck field.
Mark Blicavs (DEF $449,200)
The athletic big man, who posted 12 scores of 87 or more last year, is likely to again settle in defence but should only be considered in SuperCoach draft.
Tom Atkins (FWD $327,200)
Terrific first season at the top-level but the role-player is hard to recommend at the price.
Jack Henry (DEF $289,200)
Should feature for the Cats but look elsewhere at the price.
Esava Ratugolea (FWD $319,100)
Still improving and is important to the Cats’ structure but athletic tall is unlikely to feature in SuperCoach in 2020.
Cam Guthrie (MID $413,900)
There will be plenty lining up to take his spot but not to pick him in SuperCoach.
Mark O’Connor (DEF $346,500)
Established himself in the Geelong defence last year but others have much stronger claims.
Jake Kolodjashnij (DEF $297,600)
Not keen.
MAKING THEIR CASE
Sam Menegola (MID $441,700), Josh Jenkins (FWD $371,200), Jed Bews (DEF $304,700) and Gary Rohan (FWD $328,800) would all be stiff to miss Round 1 selection, while Harry Taylor (DEF $384,300) is unlikely to command a spot like he once did.
Nathan Kreuger (FWD $123,900) and J acob Kennerley (DEF $123,900) have impressed over summer and could be handed early-season debuts while Charlie Constable (MID $391,000) and Lachie Fogarty (MID $219,400) might be regulars soon enough.
