AFL SuperCoach 2019: Who to trade in and out of your team after Round 13

Angus Brayshaw finished last season with an average of 115 in his last four games. Is the Demon primed to emulate his efforts in the second half of 2019 and be a bargain addition?

This was always the bye round that we feared with SuperCoach big guns out thanks to Collingwood, Geelong and Melbourne enjoying their bye, ruling out the likes of Brodie Grundy, Patrick Dangerfield, Tim Kelly and Max Gawn.

We then lost Tom Rockliff at selection and things got even harder.

With one bye round to go, we now have two thirds of the competition bye free, so we can select players with confidence.

BOOT HIM

Brodie Smith

He was a hot topic last week and he didn’t really redeem himself this week. This is now a 48 and a 74 in the last two weeks. Granted he did get some forward pressure from Isaac Cumming for the 48. If you are looking for someone to upgrade in your backline, he could be a great option this week.

Noah Balta

Time to go. He has had his chances and he didn’t get to half his BE this week. With Soldo and Nankervis out he didn’t get to do the majority of the ruck work which is where he gets his points. That fell to Mabior Chol who outscored Balta.

Dylan Shiel

Shiel’s two lowest scores have come in his last two games and both were in the 60s. He isn’t scoring at a premium level with just one score over 100 in the last six games so you may want to trade him for someone that is.

David Mundy

That great run that Mundy had seems to be over as he has had a 40 and a 76 in the last two weeks and he is now dropping in value. It seems as though Walters is taking all of the points that Mundy was getting previously. It may be time to look elsewhere.

Connor Rozee

Another of our rookies that has reached the peak. He didn’t get to half of his BE this week and fell in value and it is a prime time to move him out for one of the guys that has just finished his bye.

Sam Walsh

Walsh couldn’t back up the 141 from last week and he missed his BE. Most coaches had him pencilled in to be traded out this week and based on his score, it seems to be the right time to pull the trigger.

BUY HIM

Zach Merrett

Merrett was back to his best this week after his bye. His 85 in Round 11 saw his BE nice and high this week which means he is back down near his starting price now. With an average of 115+ in the last five weeks he is a great option as a trade in thanks to him being bye free.

Rowan Marshall

We have been cautious on him all season and we have been waiting for him to fall away but it just isn’t happening and he must be seriously considered for your upgrades now. He has six scores over 100 and any forward that can go 120+ like he has in the last two weeks is a valuable player to have up forward.

Michael Walters

Three weeks in a row now for him to be over 100, the second time this season he has done this. But importantly he is now bye free and he doesn’t look like he is the burn man that he has been in the past. Like Marshall we keep waiting for Walters to falter but it isn’t happening.

Travis Boak

If you don’t have him yet you need to find a way to get him. After a couple of 70s in Rounds 8 and 10 he has bounced back with a 131 and now a 121. He is on track to be one of the top six forwards for the season so he needs to be in your side.

Josh Dunkley

We have had him as a buy for a few weeks now and this is exactly why. He is playing a great role in the midfield at the moment and with the tag going to Bontempelli this week it left Dunkley alone to rack up 41 possessions.

Caleb Daniel

After his hiccup with two scores in the 70s a few weeks back he has now had three games over 100 in a row and looks to be back to his best. He has now had over 30 possessions in each of his last 4 games. Buy him after his bye this week

Rory Sloane

Sloane is back after his hamstring concern. He had a big BE this week and will be at a nice price after his bye. Before his hamstring injury he was averaging 128 in the previous four weeks. He hasn’t gotten the tag of late and has been kicking important goals.

Zac Williams

If you moved Williams out a few weeks ago you may want to look at a way to bring him back in as he has been over 110 in the last couple of weeks and his 143 was the best for the game.

Josh Kelly

He hasn’t been under 100 in the last seven weeks and he just keeps getting the job done. He will come down in price this week but he won’t keep coming down for much longer. Get on him after his bye if you can.

TRADE IN TARGETS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR BYE

Lachie Neale

He has had some scores that have been just over 100 in the last few games which is below what he has been doing. His BE is up at 125 and he is under $600k. You could grab him either this week or give him one more week to see how he goes and if his price drops.

Brayden Sier

Just watch him for his second game but at just $435k he could be the steal of the season. He has come in to replace Dayne Beams and hit 103 in that first game. Watch him closely in Round 14 and be ready to pounce after that.

Andrew Gaff

Gaff’s last six games have seen him over 100 and he is priced at just $564k with a BE of 108. The great thing about owning Gaff is that he has a great ceiling having scores of 121 and 154 this season already.

Patrick Dangerfield

If you traded him out a few weeks ago then this could be the time to get him back. He is under $550k and has a BE of just 44. There won’t be a better time to get him back into your side.

Luke Parker

Parker has had five outstanding weeks before the bye with the last four being 120+. He doesn’t come cheap and has a BE of 115 but with the form he is in there is nothing to say that he can’t beat that this week. Just know that all four of those recent great scores have come while Kennedy has either been out or was injured during the game.

Angus Brayshaw

He could be the one you look at if you are struggling for cash for a midfield upgrade. 91 and 116 in his last two but importantly he has been playing that inside mid role in the last two weeks that saw him have a great end to last season. But beware, selecting him isn’t without risk.

PLAYERS TO WATCH FOR ANOTHER WEEK

Dustin Martin

Dusty has been very consistent lately and he is super cheap at just over $500k. If you are struggling for cash after the Round 14 bye then you could look at bringing him in then. He looks as though he is going to get back to his very best at any moment.

Jack Billings

It would be very tempting to bring in a guy that has just scored a 169 but there are few factors you need to take into account before picking him. Gold Coast do give up a lot of points to opponents and Billings hasn’t been over 100 since Round 4 (he scored exactly 100 in Round 9). So I would want to see a few more scores over 100 before I snapped him up.

Brodie Grundy

If you have been waiting for Round 13 to get Grundy in then I would urge you to wait at least another week, if not two. That 84 against the Demons saw his BE skyrocket to 195 so you should be able to pick him up a bit cheaper in a week or two.

Shannon Hurn

Hurn was having a great season until he injured his hamstring. That game has seen his BE rise to 160, so if you can wait a week to get him in then he should be back around the mid $500k mark.

Wait a week before targeting Shannon Hurn.

ROOKIE WATCH

TRADE

Noah Balta (BE 109 scored 51)

With Soldo out he didn’t even do the majority of the ruck work with Chol coming in and doing that. With the Tigers on the bye this week there is no other option but to trade him out.

Connor Rozee (BE 99 scored 44)

Rozee’s run seems to be over. He has made us some great money but it is now time to trade him out to capitalise on some of that value.

Sam Walsh (BE 55 scored 50)

Walsh was great in the last game for us but this week he had a hard time of it. Most planned to trade him this week anyway and it seems to be the right time.

Bailey Smith (BE 94 scored 77)

Smith has been ticking along but he has missed his BE and it could be time to move him out if you haven’t done it already.

Nick Larkey (BE 54 scored 40)

This is an equal lowest score of the season for Larkey and it meant he didn’t make his BE. With the Roos on their bye this week it could be the right time to move him out if you have a downgrade option up forward.

ROOKIES ON THE BUBBLE

Patrick Naish — scores of 78 and 67

While he is a great trade in option he is on the bye this week. You can either grab him this week if it suits your bye structure or better yet get him after the Round 14 bye.

Dylan Clarke — scores of 99 and 76

While he has had tagging roles on Patrick Cripps and Jaeger O’Meara he still manages to find plenty of the footy himself. On the bubble this week and bye free he is certainly one to bring in this week.

Ryan Gardner — scores of 41 and 22

While he is super cheap a 22 isn’t going to help you and it doesn’t bode well for his job security either. You can bring him in but just don’t expect too much.
