Haven’t bothered making a SuperCoach team this year?

You wouldn’t be alone. Whether it is not having the time, being away on holiday or just simply not wanting the stress, there are a number of reasons why footy fans may have given SuperCoach a miss in 2019.

Until now.

What if you could play SuperCoach for just one week and win $1000?

This week that becomes a reality with the bye rounds creating a once-in-a-season opportunity to get the jump on SuperCoaches who have slugged it out over the past 11 weeks, who will likely have a number of players out of their sides.

Nat Fyfe has been a great pick in SuperCoach this year but he won’t help coaches this week, while most coaches will also have some or all of Jack Macrae, Zach Merrett and Travis Boak stuck on the bench and replaced with low-scoring players or no one at all.

That opens the door for those who have steered clear of SuperCoach the chance to win big with a fresh side of 18 guns — a spin-off of the regular game that we’re dubbing ‘SuperCoach X’.

While AFLX has failed to capture the imagination of the football world, this is an idea that plenty can get behind.

Check out how you can reap the rewards.

1. REGISTER AND PLAY

Head to the SuperCoach website and hit ‘sign up’. Plug in your details and you’ll be automatically thrown into a random league. But don’t worry — you aren’t doing this for league wins!

Remember you can only register once for SuperCoach. So if you have already made a SuperCoach team this year, you will be ineligible to win the $1000 even if you top the charts with a second account.

2. START SELECTING YOUR SIDE — WITH CHEAPIES

As we mentioned before, only 18 scoring players count towards your total this week. So no need to put any scoring players on your bench — fill all those spots with the cheapest players available. You can also afford to pick $102,400 rookies for your final two spots in defence and the forward line, leaving almost $9 million to spend on your 18 scoring stars.

3. FILL THE REST OF YOUR TEAM WITH GUNS WHO ARE PLAYING IN ROUND 12

That means you’ll need to avoid players from Fremantle, Essendon, St Kilda, Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn.

We recommend stacking the midfield since that’s where most SuperCoach points are scored.

4. LOOK FOR ATTRACTIVE MATCH-UPS

Overall SuperCoach scores for the season so far are your best guide on who to select, but take a close look at players in hot form and who have appealing match-ups this weekend.

North Melbourne faces Gold Coast and Brisbane is playing Carlton, so Lions and Kangaroos players should score well.

On the other hand, top-scoring rucks Brodie Grundy and Max Gawn are facing off against each other on Queen’s Birthday, which could limit their scoring potential.

5. SELECT A CAPTAIN AND VICE-CAPTAIN

Lion Lachie Neale has scored more points than any other player this year aside from the top two rucks, and he should be a safe pick against Carlton to rack up double points as captain.

If you really want to maximise your score, try using the vice-captain loophole by placing the VC on someone who plays early in the round. If they score big, select a non-playing player as captain and you’ll get double your VC player’s score.

If he doesn’t score well, use the captaincy as usual.

6. TRADE!

Every SuperCoach player has three trades for each week of the bye rounds — and you can use them right up to the last game of the weekend.

If Scott Pendlebury is a late out on Queen’s Birthday, you can use a trade to swap him for anyone else playing in that game.

7. GOOD LUCK!
