Recruiters from multiple clubs can pat themselves on the back for a successful 2020 trade period, according to the numbers.

Every week Champion Data analyst Daniel Hoyne and dual premiership star David King dig into the numbers that reveal what’s real and what isn’t on Pure Footy, exclusive to heraldsun.com.au.

Hoyne gave recruiters a tick, with 10 of the 11 biggest trade acquisitions rating above average or elite for their position.

Joe Daniher made a slow start to his first season at the Lions but has caught fire in the past four rounds.

“Joe Daniher in the last month is the No.1 rated key forward in the competition, so he’s flying,” Hoyne said.

“Tom Hickey, in terms of bang for your buck, he’s the third-rated ruckman in the competition behind Brodie Grundy and Nic Naitanui this season.”

King singled out Port Adelaide recruiters for targeting Aliir Aliir.

“That’s the kind of recruiting I fall in love with ... they saw a weakness, they got him and he’s been an absolute boon for them.

“If you look at the intercepts that he creates, winning the ball back for Port Adelaide, only Darcy Moore and Jake Lever have created more scores from intercepts.”

Joe Daniher has kicked at least one goal in every game this year.

Hoyne said Blues recruit Zac Williams was having a better year than fans might think.

“Zac Williams might be a surprise to a lot of people given the fact that he did have a poor game on the weekend.

“That was his lowest-rated game since Round 6, 2015, so the criticism is coming on the back of that one poor performance, his first 4-5 weeks were OK.”

But King said Williams had work to do.

“As a midfielder his last three weeks he’s had four clearances in total, and he’s only had 22 contested possessions for the year. If you’re going to be playing in at the coalface you’ve got to be winning more of your own ball.”
