The Hawthorn rebuild might be further advanced than you thought. On this week’s episode of Pure Footy, check out the kids driving the charge.

Pure Footy – Episode 15

Few lists have been more heavily scrutinised this year than Hawthorn’s.

As the losses piled up, the talk of long and painful rebuilds has grown louder and louder.

But is there already some light at the end of the tunnel for fans who thought their Septembers might be free for the next few years?

In the past three weeks the Hawks have beaten Sydney and GWS while also pushing the resurgent Bombers to the brink of defeat in Round 14.

And one of the most promising signs is who is driving the turnaround.

On this week’s episode of Pure Footy, stats gurus David King and Daniel Hoyne looked at the kids who should lead the Hawks back up the ladder.

“I think what Hawthorn have done since the bye is extremely impressive,” Champion Data’s Hoyne said.

“We’ve had a conversation now for 12 months, 18 months of where’s the youth coming through? Is this going to be a five year or six year rebuild? Now you’re starting to see it if you’re a Hawthorn supporter.

“Jack Scrimshaw for instance, since round five, (he is) actually the number two rated general defender in the competition. Only Bailey Dale is rated higher in the competition.

“Dylan Moore, since about round eight or round nine, he is actually the fifth highest rated forward in the competition so he’s going well. He’s kicked a goal in every game across the last six weeks.

“Then you see Will Day on the weekend against GWS, he was actually the highest rated player on the ground in that game.

“For the next eight weeks, I think it is really exciting … what Hawthorn is actually producing. It’s not about 2021, it’s about moving forward. You’re actually now starting to see some really positive signs in the rebuild.”

Also on this week’s episode the guys touched on Aaron Naughton, the worth of ruckmen and plenty more.
