Jack Watts has provided a rare insight into what makes Ken Hinkley a successful AFL coach — and what he sees as the biggest failure of other coaches.
Watts played 21 games at the Power after spending the first nine years of his career at Melbourne following his selection as the No.1 pick in the 2008 national draft.

“Ken is a very good coach. He treated me very well — considering how he probably could have treated me,” Watts said on this week’s episode of KFC SuperFooty TV.
“Kenny has got that old-school toughness but he’s also very emotionally intelligent and empathetic ... once you get him one-on-one he’s there for you no matter what, that’s what I love about him.
“I’m amazed with how many coaches — their one job is to get the best out of their players, each individual player, however that might be.
“Even if they might not like them as a player, or even a person, who cares? It’s your job to get wins on the board and make your team feel amazing and unbreakable.
“That’s what (Hinkley) does really well. He gives you confidence, which not many of my coaches in the past (have done).”
Watts and co-hosts, Herald Sun journalists Michael Warner and Jay Clark, also discuss the drama at Collingwood, whether Richmond has a mental edge over Geelong, Watts’ amateur footy comeback and give their tips for Round 8.
