Could Carlton make a late run for the finals?

Competition is heating up for the final two spots in the top-eight with as many as seven teams – including the 13th placed Blues – remaining in contention.

The Blues have notched just six wins this season in an underwhelming campaign under coach David Teague – yet a finals berth remains within their reach, sitting two wins behind Fremantle (seventh) with a favourable run home.

On this week’s episode of KFC SuperFooty TV, Michael Warner, Jay Clark and Jack Watts predicted the two teams who will complete the top eight.

Clark tipped Carlton to sneak into the finals with its improved defence, flagging its clash with St Kilda in Round 20 as a critical contest in shaping the finals race.

“(Carlton) play one top eight side in their run home – that’s Port Adelaide, who are a bit hit and miss at the moment,” Clark said.

“What Carlton are doing is defending a lot better. They’re defending more in sync, more as a team, so there has been a big shift there.

“That St Kilda-Carlton game is absolutely huge for the top eight.”

“Massive game against Collingwood, if they don’t make finals you’d think David Teague is in a bit of (trouble) to be honest.”

“Patty Cripps is very bravely playing on and Sam Walsh … is he a top 10 player in the competition all of a sudden?”

Also on this week’s episode the guys discuss Collingwood coaching candidates, the Victorian side in the hunt for rising Gold Coast key forward Ben King and the favourites for the Brownlow.
