PORT Adelaide will abandon its interest in Hawthorn’s Ryan Burton unless the club can complete a medical assessment on him by Monday night.
Hawthorn is prepared to trade Burton back home to South Australia as part of a trade for Power’s star goalkicker Chad Wingard.

But the Herald Sun understands the Hawks will have to include their top choice in this year’s draft (No.15) as well as Burton and potentially even a future pick to satisfy the Power.
Wingard, 25, has requested a move to Waverley next season but the plan is set to fall through unless Port can examine Burton’s leg and speak to the versatile ball-winner about his football future in the next 24 hours.

The Power want more information on Burton before they proceed in talks with the Hawks about Wingard.
Burton, 21, badly broke his leg before he was drafted in 2014 and Port will not accept him as part of any deal for Wingard until Burton undergoes a full examination.
Port’s medicos have been sent from South Africa, where they were completing a personal development course, to Las Vegas where Burton is holidaying, to carry out the assessment.
But it still remained unclear whether Burton wanted to switch clubs after 47 games in three seasons in brown and gold.
Burton was known to be devastated that Hawthorn was prepared to trade him as part of a Wingard deal despite a disappointing 2018 season.
But Port heavyweights are desperate to try to speak to Burton personally and remain in the dark about the details of Hawthorn’s likely offer.
Officials from the two clubs have held only preliminary discussions about the Wingard situation.
Port have put a high price on Wingard who, at his best, is one of the most dangerous goalkicking midfield-forwards in the game.
The Herald Sun understands that Port want more than one first-round draft pick for the dazzling ball-winner.
The former No.6 draft pick and two-time All-Australian wants a fresh start under Alastair Clarkson to help revive his career after a frustrating 2017-18.
Burton also hit a flat spot this season after finishing second in the Rising Star award last year.
Hawthorn is also eyeing GWS Giants wingman Tom Scully and could yet secure him in a trade for pick No.53.
Scully was one of the AFL’s best wingmen in 2017 but he suffered a devastating ankle injury in Round 2 this season, which has delivered a major blow to his trade value.
It is unclear when Scully will be able to make his playing return.
The Giants are talking to the Hawks about a deal to send Scully to Waverley, helping off-load his salary from the Giants’ tight salary cap.
GWS wants to re-sign Josh Kelly on a deal that is likely to cost the Giants more than $1 million dollars a season.
