A West Australian ball magnet’s impressive form has helped land him a late call-up to play in the AFL academy match.
Subiaco’s Neil Erasmus has collected 28, 29 and 28 disposals from the opening three games of the WAFL’s colts competition, prompting selectors to pick him to face Geelong’s VFL side at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.
The 192cm inside midfielder/forward will get the chance to showcase his talent in front of scouts, alongside the country’s other top draft hopefuls.
Erasmus heads into the game as the second-ranked WAFL colts player this year, averaging 168 points.
“He’s started the year pretty well,” Subiaco colts coach Chayce Creedy told The Advertiser.
“He takes a really good grab overhead and he’s not a bad finisher.
“He’s really fit and puts a lot of effort into his condition – that’s allowed him to excel in games.”

Erasmus played his first colts game as a bottom-ager in last year’s final minor round.
He stayed in the side for all three finals, kicking four goals in Subiaco’s premiership win to play himself into early draft calculations.
“His grand final was amazing,” Creedy said.
Erasmus will play a large chunk of his season with Hale School, the alma mater of Port Adelaide’s Mitch Georgiades.
Perth’s Jack Avery, a 19-year-old intercepting half-back, tops Champion Data’s WAFL colts’ KFC SuperCoach rankings after three weeks.
Avery, who was in the competition’s team of the year in 2020 but was overlooked in the drafts, registered a huge 215 points in Round 3, when he had 39 touches and seven marks.
He averaged 110 rankings points as a bottom-ager.
“Jack knows how to find the footy, that’s for sure,” Perth colts coach Michael Pratt said.
“He reads the play really well and is an old-fashioned, behind-the-ball player.
“In Round 3, he also paid a lot more attention to the defensive side of the game ... and doing team things that don’t always appear on the stats sheet.”

Subiaco midfielder Matthew Johnson, who is averaging 100 points per game in the colts, and Swan Districts swingman Rhett Bazzo (93) are also in the academy.
So too is Claremont key forward Jacob van Rooyen, who has kicked two goals from three league matches this year.
