SANFL Under-18 SuperRankings: Top 50 performers by ranking points

From top draft prospects to Academy guns and this year’s bolters, the SANFL’s best junior footballers have produced some big performances so far. Top 50 SuperRankings.

REPLAY: SANFL football -  U18s: North Adelaide vs Central District

South Adelaide’s Jason Horne has unsurprisingly been the SA draft hopeful everyone is talking about but a Crows’ Next Generation Academy member is also turning heads.

While league midfielder Horne has been touted as a possible No. 1 pick, North Adelaide’s Blayne O’Loughlin is enhancing his prospects after amassing 73 disposals in two underage games.

O’Loughlin – the nephew of Sydney Swans great Michael O’Loughlin – is the fifth-ranked player in the SANFL’s under-18s competition after two rounds, according to Champion Data.

He registered 44 possessions and a whopping 162 ranking points in North’s 15-point Round-2 victory against South Adelaide at Noarlunga on Saturday.

Although his disposal numbers were slightly inflated by taking kick-ins, O’Loughlin also had 10 intercepts and eight rebound 50s.

The left-footer’s strong start to the campaign, which includes 29 touches in Round 1 and an average of 137 ranking points, has led to him being called up to play for the AFL Academy against Geelong’s VFL side on April 24.

Adelaide has draft access to O’Loughlin if a club does not bid on him in the top 20.

Hard-running South Adelaide midfielder/forward Matt Roberts tops the SANFL under-18’s Champion Data rankings, but he has featured in just one game.

Roberts chalked up a whopping 175 points in Round 1 after registering 25 disposals at 88 per cent efficiency, seven score involvements, seven intercepts, six clearances and six tackles in the Panthers’ 13-point triumph over Norwood.

North Adelaide midfielder/half-forward Hugh Jackson’s numbers are similarly impressive.

Jackson, a left-footer from Rostrevor College, has played in both the Roosters’ matches, backing up his 154 ranking points in the opening round with a 33-disposal, 11-tackle and six-clearance showing last weekend.

Roosters midfielder Harvey Harrison has improved over summer and will be a name to watch this year.

Stronger and quicker than Jackson, though not as neat with the ball, Harrison earnt the SANFL’s under-18 MVP award for Round 2 after 31 disposals, six clearances and six tackles versus South.

Sturt forward Morgan Ferres starred in his only match to date, picking up 17 disposals, taking 10 marks and booting six goals in Round 1.

Only Adelaide draftee Brayden Cook kicked more goals than in the under-18s last season than Ferres, who slotted 22 from six games.

Here are the top 50 SANFL under-18 players by average ranking points so far in 2021.
