Richmond CEO Shane Dunne has no set expectation for second-season coach Adem Yze

While there’s “a rejuvenation” at Richmond courtesy of its draftees, the club’s new chief executive has no set expectations for coach Adem Yze.

Newly appointed Richmond chief executive Shane Dunne has no set expectations for Adem Yze in his second season as coach but wants to see the Tigers progress “every minute of the day”.

The Tigers claimed just two wins in Yze’s debut season as head coach to finish bottom of the ladder for the first time since 2007.

Dunne says while there is “a rejuvenation” at Punt Rd after the influx of draftees, he doesn’t have a pass mark for the club in terms of wins.

“There’s no linear path to a premiership, especially from where we are,” Dunne said.

“We want to see improvement in every day and in every game.

“There’s going to be some challenges along the way. We have a young list, we’ve still got some very experienced players, some returning from injuries.

“We’re really confident we’ll put in some good showings this year and the Tiger army should really get behind it.”

Dunne conceded 2024 was a challenging year for everyone at Richmond but has noticed a lift this pre-season, particularly among Yze and the other coaches.

“It was a really difficult year for everyone at the club last year. Adem is a career coach, he’s an experienced coach,” he said.

“Now he’s had one year under his belt as the head coach, he’s really taken charge this pre-season and we’re seeing him really strong through all the meetings.

“He’s got a clear game plan, we’ve got new coaches in the mix in Steve Morris in the backline, Blake Caracella as well.

“We’re really excited for the year, we want to continue to see progress, we want to improve every minute of the day – not just every day, every minute of the day.”

Richmond added six first-round draftees, headlined by No.1 pick Sam Lalor, in the off-season.

According to Dunne, the Tigers have had to hold the young guns back at times as they each throw themselves into contention for round 1.

“I am so excited, it feels like a rejuvenation through the place at the moment with such young talent coming through the doors,” he said.

“They’re super excited, we’re having to hold them back as much we can because we want them to have long careers with us. It’s not all about round 1 or the pre-season.

“We’re seeing glimpses and that’s what it’s about, the potential for these young men to turn into elite footballers, long-term elite footballers.

“The Tiger army should be excited, we want them to come on this journey with us as they develop.”
