Proposals, holidays, celebrations: How AFL stars spent their bye weeks

It’s become clear over the bye rounds, a lot of the AFL’s best don’t particularly like the cold. Check out how the stars from your favourite club have utilised their time off this season.

There’s been beachside holiday proposals, crocodile feeding, frosty Tasmanian mornings, stunning North Queensland beaches and plenty of wine and golf as a host of AFL players hit the road to make the most of their mid-season bye.

While St Kilda coach Ross Lyon had joked about a Vegas jaunt, things are a little closer to home for the game’s stars with family trips to Noosa and farmstays abound across the competition.

Melbourne forward Tom McDonald has headed to the sunny Queensland shores with his young family, while Hawthorn young gun Nick Watson is sitting high on the hill above Airlie Beach with a stellar view.

Things are a little more rugged-up for the likes of teammate Sam Butler, who has stayed on the Apple Isle for a hit at landmark golf course Barnbougle.

We hope he stays dry - legend has it that the Hawthorn golf trip has a tough penalty for the losers with a dip in the creek required for those who post the highest score.

Melbourne star Christian Petracca has headed to his happy place of Noosa with teammate Tom Sparrow, where he might cross paths with the Walker crew with Crows forward Taylor and his family staying not far from the famed Hastings Street strip.

Petracca’s skipper Max Gawn enjoyed a sip or two alongside his young fella, having travelled to Adelaide for the bye.

While Sydney players Errol Gulden, Joel Amartey, James Rowbottom and Ollie Florent were spotted at popular DJ Mallgrab’s gig in Sydney.
