FAMILY will play a big factor in Jake Lever’s decision whether to join the finals charge at Melbourne next season.
Lever is widely expected to play his last game for Adelaide in Saturday’s Grand Final and make a decision on his future in the next fortnight.
The Demons believe his brilliant intercept marking game is the perfect addition to a young defensive unit which this year fell marginally short of its first finals appearance in 11 years.

The 21-year-old has been touted as the best young key defender to emerge since Richmond’s Alex Rance. He has been offered a minimum five-year deal worth about $750,000 a season by the Dees.
Lever on Friday said he had shut out the continuing speculation on his future and was desperate to channel his focus on the premiership decider against the Tigers.
A premiership could help give Lever a dream send-off after three years in South Australia.
“I try not to get caught up in it too much, I just like to play my footy,” Lever said.
“This weekend is no different and to be honest my future is probably the furthest thing away from my mind.
“We’ve got the Grand final parade today, Grand Final tomorrow and that’s probably the only thing on my mind.”
Teammate Charlie Cameron is another who admitted he still felt the pull of his home state, but said he was yet to consider a move home to Queensland.
The Brisbane Lions are interested in Cameron but might have to wait another season to secure him given he is contracted until the end of 2018.
“There are all these rumours about me leaving, but my focus has been on this week so I haven’t really thought about what’s going to happen in the future,’’ Cameron said.
“I have always had that pull (of home), but I have enjoyed my time here, and I have had great people around me like Eddie (Betts) and the indigenous guys I am really close to.
“I am just trying to focus on footy, trying to focus on (Saturday). I haven’t really thought about leaving.”
The pull of family is also strong for Calder product Lever.
The third-year backman is keen to start a young family with his partner and has a strong family support network in Victoria.
The No. 14 draft pick was adamant he would weigh up the family ties at the appropriate time.
“Family is big for everyone, not just myself,” he said.
“There are 25 other blokes (at Adelaide) who are here at the moment and their families are close.
“That’s obviously going to play a part in the decisions but as I said I’ll focus on Saturday and the contract will take care of itself.”
Adelaide has already demanded two first-round draft picks for Lever, which the Demons are likely to resist and work to find some middle ground as part of negotiations.
