Former Richmond player Andrew Krakouer joins Collingwood - via the Gold Coast

UPDATE 6.16pm: ANDREW Krakouer has joined Collingwood and the Magpies have picked up an untried 203cm ruckman as a bonus in a deal with Gold Coast.

The Magpies and Suns submitted paperwork to the AFL today allowing Krakouer to play for Collingwood next year.

Krakouer, 27, was passed on to the premier by Gold Coast, which had access to the former Richmond goalsneak as a pre-listed player.

The Magpies gave their first-round draft pick - selection No.25 - to Gold Coast.

In return they received Krakouer, three late draft picks - currently 55, 78 and 95 - and John Ceglar, another pre-listed Suns player.

Ruckman Ceglar, 19, played for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup in 2010 and represented Vic Country in the national championships.

He is the son of former North Melbourne player David Ceglar, who played seven games for the Kangaroos from 1986-87.

Ceglar will help cover the loss of Josh Fraser, who joined the Gold Coast today as one of the Suns' uncontracted recruits.

Krakouer has been out of the AFL system for three years. He spent 16 months in jail in Western Australia for assault before resurrecting his career this year with WAFL club Swan Districts.

Collingwood football manager Geoff Walsh said yesterday: "The principle of the deal is in place and we just have to tick off the elements to it."

Gold Coast can pre-list 10 players who had previously nominated for the AFL draft, or were previously club-listed.

In completed deals yesterday:

RICHMOND traded Richard Tambling to Adelaide

.

WESTERN Bulldogs and Sydney swapped Andrejs Everitt and Patrick Veszpremi.

In the Tambling deal, Richmond will receive two draft picks - a late first-round pick the Crows will receive as compensation for losing Nathan Bock to the Gold Coast, and Adelaide's third-round selection.

While Krakouer's impending return is the fairytale story of trade week, Chris Tarrant's potential return from Fremantle to Collingwood has taken a twist.

Tarrant has threatened to retire if he cannot get to the Magpies. Carlton and Hawthorn are also interested.  Krakouer is the son of North Melbourne great Jim.

Jailed for 16 months over an assault, Krakouer joined Swan Districts after his release last November and subsequently won the Sandover Medal as the league's best-and-fairest player.

He was best afield in the Swans' Grand Final victory.

Krakouer was delisted by Richmond at the end of 2007 after playing 102 games.

Long-time mentor and former Tigers official Greg Miller flew to Perth on Tuesday to help Krakouer assess his options.

"He's keen to go Collingwood," Miller said.

"He can go in the draft, he can go into the pre-season draft or he can accept the fact Gold Coast can list him and trade him."
