Top 10 draft prospect Harry Sheezel has shown AFL recruiters another side to his game as he put on a clinic in a new role in the NAB League on Saturday.
After starting the season as a small forward, Sheezel has been shifted into a midfield role with the Sandringham Dragons the past two weeks.
Against the Northern Knights, the 17-year-old recorded 37 disposals, nine marks, seven tackles, six clearances, seven inside-50s, 13 score involvements and a whopping 220 KFC SuperCoach ranking points.
“At the start of the year the plan was just playing him predominantly forward and then this time of the year moving into the midfield to give him an opportunity to show what he can do up the ground,” Sandringham Dragons talent manager Mark Wheeler said.

“The week before was the same role but he only got out of bed on the Friday (due to illness) so he was a little bit under done the week before. But on Saturday he definitely showed what he can do through the midfield, which was nice. He got a few clearances and handball receives, which was a big thing we were trying to get him to do – get him up and down the ground and then also go forward and kick some goals when he was resting forward.”
Sheezel did not kick a goal — managing only two behinds from as many shots — but did have three direct score assists.
Across his first four NAB League games this season, Sheezel booted 13 goals, including six against Tasmania in Round 4.
Sheezel’s partner in crime through the Dragons’ midfield was Brisbane father-son prospect Will Ashcroft, who continued a consistent season with 36 disposals and six clearances.
Another famous Lions name also had a good match at the weekend in Noah Bradshaw, the son of former Brisbane forward Daniel Bradshaw.
The Murray Bushrangers product logged 30 disposals, five marks and three clearances for 144 ranking points through the midfield against Tasmania.
Dane Whitnall — the son of former Carlton star Lance Whitnall — scored 141 ranking points for Calder Cannons in their loss to Oakleigh Chargers.
The 195cm defender recorded 23 disposals, six marks, 12 intercept possessions and nine rebound 50s in what was his best match of the season.
