AFL Super Ladder: Every team’s form rated after Round 10

So many Melbourne players are down on confidence, which can change quickly, but not quickly enough for the Demons to be a factor this season. EVERY TEAM’S FORM RATED

Hawthorn’s budget recruits continue to turn to gold.

One in particular is in career-best form and produced another eye-catching performance against the Power.

Meanwhile, which trio of Demons stars have had their colours lowered in 2019?

After a thrilling weekend of footy, Jon Anderson rates the form of every team.

GEELONG 36 PTS 145.8%

Like Collingwood, winning games despite being beatable. An integral part of that success is the vitality provided by new faces. Against the Suns it was Tom Atkins, whose tackling and pressure was through the roof. Another Tom in Hawkins has never played better.

THE TACKLE: HAS ESSENDON IMPROVED AT ALL?

SUPERCOACH: EVERY SCORE FROM ROUND 10

GOING, GONE: SCOTT, ROOS PART WAYS

COLLINGWOOD 32 PTS 127.5%

Had at least five of their best 22 out and have been cruisin’ for a bruisin’ in recent weeks, so a win of character. More votes to Brodie Grundy while modelling the one sock down, one up look. Different spellings, but has any team ever had two better Brodies when you add Mihocek?

GWS 28 PTS 130%

It was the win they had to have at the MCG and maybe the moment they started to truly believe this is their year, although the opposition wasn’t what it will be in September. And massive last-quarter fade-outs don’t win too many finals.

RICHMOND 28 PTS 106.2%

The Tigers arguably have more role players than any rival, with Liam Baker quickly becoming a compelling part of the Damien Hardwick “system”. It must be comforting for a young player to come into a team where every role is so clearly defined. As an outside game, Bachar Houli’s was near perfection

WEST COAST 28 PTS 101.6%

The Band is starting to get back together with all the usual suspects integral in a win of substance. They are now poised for a top two slot despite an unconvincing opening two months. And with Nic Naitanui to provide the ruck spark, “We’re here to show you why”.

BRISBANE 24 PTS 103.1%

So they want to play with the big boys? Then overcome the Ross Lyon Strangulation Game in Perth. A loss of significance, and one that this club will grow from. A club that is coached by one of the more astute appointments in recent history. Credit to CEO Greg Swann.

ADELAIDE 20 PTS 111.8%

Two losses in two weeks that ‘couldabeen’, ‘shouldabeen’ wins. Does it come down to leadership, in which case Taylor Walker has to put his hand up? There is too much huffing and puffing with not enough houses being blown down from the Texan.

FREMANTLE 20 PTS 109.4%

They don’t win too easily the Dockers and you wonder if a more adventurous game plan would release the shackles. But hey, they are in the top six and they have Nathan Wilson and Michael Walters, two indigenous players who perfectly capture the beauty of their football.

HAWTHORN 20 PTS 103.8%

In money ball terms, Ricky Henderson ranks in the top three pick-ups over the past five years. Prior to his third quarter injury, Jack Scrimshaw continued to show how he can also prove an astute selection. Tim O’Brien’s best game for the year, same for Jon Ceglar.

PORT ADELAIDE 20 PTS 103%

A wretched bunch in terms of getting a handle on where they sit. They take a couple of steps forward and a sizeable one backwards all to regularly for mine. And on Saturday too much stuffing around with the pill, a style that rarely beats Hawthorn

ST KILDA 20 PTS 91.7

Luke Dunstan’s kicking, long and fast, is what forwards dream of, so ensure he penetrates the 50m as often as possible. As for the result, don’t they say never give a sucker an even break? And they did that by typically failing to convert.

ESSENDON 16 PTS 97.8%

They have plenty of critics, a group I don’t subscribe to. Have been done no favours with injury yet remain competitive. Darcy Parish has worked on his weaknesses which resulted in his best game for the club. Tom Bellchambers proved again how undersold he sometimes is.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

You could argue they were stiff to cop an emotionally-charged opponent. Against that they are a team that goes missing for at least one quarter too often. Obviously they lack tall forward targets while Aaron Naughton adds consistency to his skill-set, plus some X factor around the ball.

NORTH MELBOURNE 12 PTS 86.5%

Mason Wood played according to the ability his maker gave him, Jed Anderson is becoming the player his teenage years suggested he could while Nick Larkey is capable of adding something quite different to the norm. As for their ex-coach, you haven’t seen the last of him in that guise.

SYDNEY 12 PTS 85.5%

Oh what could have been had Sam Reid’s body allowed him to get a clear run at it over the past six years? Tony Shaw’s suggestion for Buddy Franklin to play some footy on a wing makes perfect sense. As for Blakey long term, yum yum yum.

MELBOURNE 12 PTS 75.8%

So many players are shadows of the 2018 versions, led by Angus Brayshaw, Tom McDonald and Clayton Oliver. That’s confidence, not ability, and it can change quickly. But not quickly enough to be a factor this year and that is a bitter pill to swallow for their success-starved faithful.

GOLD COAST 12 PTS 75.3%

Every week bar one they have been competitive while they get games into the future stars of a club that has stood for too little for too long. Jarrod Witts has become such a big part of that respect — David Swallow, Alex Sexton and Jarrod Harbrow the same. Now to maintain the rage.

CARLTON 4 PTS 76.7%

Mitch McGovern’s highlight reel far outweighs his productivity. And he has teammates who go long periods with no obvious influence. But their performance wasn’t a coach killer in a week where a person with 10 years at the AFL coalface became available.
