AFL stars not safe from Dane Swan at Brownlow medal night

Dane Swan was let loose on the AFL fraternity on Sunday at the Brownlow Medal — and it was bad news for one Demons star.

Footy great Dane Swan is at it again.

The Collingwood larrikin was let loose on the AFL fraternity on Sunday night in his annual Twitter commentary of the Brownlow medal presentation.

The 2011 Brownlow winner has cemented a position as a crucial piece in the Brownlow medal puzzle, providing much-needed comic relief from the monotonous vote count.

While Western Australian product Patrick Cripps won the medal in a dramatic count, Swan’s performance was also worthy of polling votes.

Swan took over a corporate betting agency’s social media account during the awards and saved his best barbs for Melbourne star Clayton Oliver, who was one of the leading favourites to win the medal race.

The pair have traded light-hearted barbs previously and the latest exchange has been just as entertaining.

Swan started the saga at the 2017 Brownlow when he said Oliver would be a “virgin” if not for his notoriety as a professional footballer.

Oliver landed his own gag a short time later, saying Swan would be the “guy that puts stickers on apples” if he didn’t play AFL.

Swan also took a shot at Oliver’s appearance at last year’s presentation.

Now, Swan has struck again.

“After seeing Clayton Oliver tonight, no doubt he’s finally off the mark,” Swan posted on the sportsbetcomau Twitter profile in reference to his “virgin” gag.

Meanwhile, Triple M has also made an annual tradition of potting footy players at the Brownlow.

The station’s tradition of asking “s***” questions on the red carpet delivered yet again.

The interviewer caught Gillon McLachlan off guard with a question about Tracy Grimshaw, while Hugh McLuggage had to laugh off a hilarious question surrounding teammate Daniel McStay and his reported desire to move to Collingwood during the 2022 Trade Period.

“If the rumours are to be believed, do you think Dan McStay will have to stay,” he was asked.

McLachlan has also been making headlines for his butchery of the vote count, which included some interesting gaffes surrounding the pronunciation of Demons star Christian Petracca’s name.

Petracca was spotted saying what appears to be, “it’s Petracca for f***s sake,” as his three votes for Round 16 were read out by the CEO, with a mispronunciation of the ‘a’ in the surname.
