Gold Coast housing prices skyrocket

A five-unit luxury beachfront home in northern Palm Beach is earmarked for demolition to make way for a mid-rise tower.

Plans have been lodged with the council by JG Apartments Pty Ltd to knock down the three-storey Ar-Y-Mor house on the Gold Coast Highway, just metres from the planned route of the light rail.

The 1651sq m site would instead become home to Palm Springs Residences, a nine-storey unit complex with views of the Palm Beach Artificial Reef.

According to a planning report, it would have 32 units, most of which would be three bedrooms.

It would have a 61-bay residential carpark.

The report said the tower had a “subtropical architectural design focused on enhancing the character of Palm Beach”.

“The architectural design has a strong focus on subtropical building form with open, lightweight and breathable facade materials and elements with lush green landscaping at the ground plane which continues up parts of the facade,” the report reads.

“The proposed apartments adopt large and varied boundary setbacks to ensure appropriate separation to adjoining properties and the road frontages, achieve a high level of access to natural sunlight and breeze and take advantage of coastal views.

“The proposed development will positively contribute to a vibrant, high-quality public domain and reinforce the local character of the Palm Beach area.”

It is the latest in a variety of new low and mid-rise towers which have either been proposed for Palm Beach or are under construction.

It will be considered by the council’s planning committee later in the year.
