Canberra developer provides first look at luxury Malua Bay Terrace

Potential homeowners have received their first look at a new luxury townhouse development on the NSW south coast. See the plans for the popular coastal hideaway.

Inside look at the new Club Malua

The transformation of the popular south coast hideaway of Malua Bay is well under way as yet another new investment is unveiled.

Canberra-based developer Core development has offered a first look at its new multimillion-dollar residential development as the fire-ravaged town continues to build back bigger.

Located only a few streets away from the popular Malua Bay beach, the $5.8 million Malua Bay Terrace will feature 27 three and four-bedroom homes in an enclosed housing estate on the town’s steep hillside, planning documents submitted to Eurobodalla Shire Council reveal.

Of the homes proposed, 19 will be two storeys high, making up the interior of the battle-axe shaped lot.

A further eight homes on the lot’s southern fringe will be three storeys high, with views over Malua Bay.

Each of the houses will come with at least one enclosed parking space, with the eight larger homes equipped with double-car garages.

Vehicle access will be provided via only a single road connecting the fenced-in development with the existing Jarrah Way.

Submitted to the council for approval, the project comes as Malua Bay remerges from the destruction wrought by the Black Summer bushfires, which whipped through the seaside town in late-2019 destroying homes and businesses.

Club Malua Bay, located opposite the development on the far side of Jarrah Way, reopened its doors in July after years of construction delays and temporary, pop-up style venues following its destruction in the Black Summer fires.

Cabra Bowls Group CEO Jay Porter told this publication in July work had been set back first by Covid restrictions, then by floods.

“It took longer than we anticipated, but we are rapt with the result,” he said.

“I talked to one of the people waiting outside when the club reopened, and she said the reopening finally gave her closure.

“That’s exactly what a club means to the local community.

“People are really thankful to have it back.”

Nearby, work is already under way clearing land for a subdivision on the town’s western fringe.

A further subdivision is also planned directly north of the Malua Bay Terrace.

Malua Bay is home to almost 3000 people but, like much of the south coast, it is witnessing an influx in development.

Core has already spearheaded a number of new projects in the region, including the completed Ohana Apartments in Batemans Bay.

In July, another Canberra-based developer – Zapari – announced plans for a $20 million boutique three-storey, 70-room Accor Sebel hotel and townhouse development on Dolphin Ave, adjacent to the arterial Beach Rd connecting Batemans Bay and Malua Bay along the coast.

The Beach Rd area is already in the midst of a major renovation, with almost $16 million invested in two separate housing developments alone.

Plans for the Malua Bay Terrace are on exhibition at the Eurobodalla Shire Council’s website until November 16.
