Exclusive: Australian DJ Courtney Mills has been discharged from a Bali hospital as she waits for the swelling to subside or face emergency brain surgery.

Ms Mills told News Corp Australia that doctors have forbidden her from returning to Melbourne until confirming surgery won’t be required to release pressure from her injuries.

“I’ve asked to go back to Australia but I’m not safe to fly because of the bleeding and swelling in my brain,” she said. “They’ve done three CT scans. It’s subsided a little bit but it’s still there.”

Ms Mills shared images of her bruising, CT scan videos of brain haemorrhaging, and hospital discharge papers after saying she received harassment online by critics suggesting she played up the extent of her injuries for attention.

“I’m embarrassed for people to see how bad I look,” she said of the injuries sustained from falling down a flight of stairs.

After initially being released from a public hospital, Ms Mills said she returned to a private hospital where they discovered the extent of her head injuries along with a fractured coccyx.

“They sent me straight to emergency. I was put in a room for three and a half days with a drip. I wasn’t coherent at all,” she said.

“I couldn’t talk straight. I woke up two days ago. I tried to have some orange juice, watermelon, and projectile vomited all over my bed. From then on I couldn’t stomach anything not even water.

“I stopped the pain medication. I was in so much, so much pain but I’d rather be in the pain instead of vomiting my guts up. It was f**cked up.

“I can’t go back to hospital, it was the worst four days of my life,” she added.

Friend Lauren Fankhauser launched a GoFundMe fundraiser page while Ms Mills was hospitalised without health insurance in an effort to help cover ballooning medical costs, which Ms Mills said have reached $4,000.

Being a DJ with an international following, Ms Mills says she’s been lambasted online for the fundraising effort by critics suggesting a $5,000 hospital bill should be nothing to a successful performer.

“I’m on a tourist visa because the DJ visa ran out. So I’m here by myself, I’m not working and $4,000 is quite a lot of money to me at the moment and that’s why my friend started the GoFundMe page,” Ms Mills said. “She’s trying to do what’s best for me.”

The fall down a flight of stairs at her home, Ms Mills said, came after wearing high heel shoes for the first time after an extended period following a separate accident that shattered a foot, which required three operations to fix.

“I usually don’t wear heels,” she said. “But I was single again for the first time in years and decided to dress up, because I wanted to find my someone. I slipped.”
