Barely 48 hours since his brush with death, Donald Trump has arrived at the opening night of the Republican convention where his pick for Vice President earlier received a rowdy welcome. See how today's events unfolded.
Donald Trump has made a surprise appearance at the opening night of the Republican convention.
Trump emerged at the convention with a white bandage over his ear.
The crowd erupted when he appeared on the big screen, giving him a lengthy standing ovation.
"Trump, Trump, Trump," Republican supporters chanted.
While the party's candidate usually waits until the final night to enter the arena, Trump made his way to the venue, barely 48 hours since his brush with death.
It comes as Joe Biden has admitted it was a mistake to say he wanted Trump in the "bullseye".
But he said he would not back down from talking about the threat the former president posed to America's democracy.
"I didn’t say crosshairs. I meant bullseye. I meant focus on him. Focus on what he’s doing, focus on his policies, focus on the number of lies he told in the debate," Mr Biden said in an interview due to air later on Tuesday on NBC.

Senior FBI officials say that technicians at the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, are conducting round-the-clock forensic analyses of Thomas Crooks' phone and laptop.
Earlier today, the FBI stated that technicians had successfully accessed the shooter's phone.
The officials told NBC that although it took a day for the lab to unlock the phone, they eventually did so without help from any external firm.
The FBI also expects to release more information about the explosive device found in Crooks' car.
Leading Australian communication and body language expert Dr Louise Mahler has described the arrival of Donald Trump in the wake of the recent assassination attempt as being akin to the arrival of an Emperor.
“The emperor arrives with a bright red tie. He is on the hero's journey following his narrow escape from death." Dr Louise said.
“Trump knows how to take the stage. He says ‘thank you’, he has the winning fist-pump gesture, he claps the crowd, then he does his humble look with lips clenched tight and chin tightening.
“He was suitably triumphant and humble – the crowd loving and at times frantic in their response – this is Trump's party now.
“For all the vitriol around Trump, he is extraordinary – if you have ever been around an accident, you will see those people who just stand there helpless and those who dive in to help and call 000.
“These situations sort out the sheep from the goats and define the person before you.
Having been shot, it was fascinating to see Donald Trump's instant reaction which was to stand and fist pump to the crowd.
"Some may say that ‘he's so media aware’, whilst he is I disagree in this instance. This was the essence of the man. Credit where credit is due. He is clearly made of Tungsten steel and a fighter to his core.”
British comedian and actor Russell Brand has shared a video of Donald Trump on social media platform X, with the caption: "Ear we go. Sorry".
Caitlyn Jenner has told Amber Rose she delivered a "great speech" at the Republican convention, on X, formerly Twitter.
Republican National Committee chairman Michael Whatley said to Trump: "We are honoured to have you here tonight … We are grateful for you to be our nominee."
A smiling, fist-pumping Trump mouthed "thank you" to the crowd as they continued to chant for him to speak.
But the opening night of the convention concluded without the former president taking the stage.
Lutheran pastor James Roemke, who was called to the stage to offer a prayer to help wrap up the night, began instead with an impression of Trump.
"You're going to be so blessed, you're going to be tired of being blessed," he said.
Powerful union leader Sean O'Brien – the president of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters – addressed the convention on behalf of his organisation for the first time in its history.
He drew a standing ovation when he declared Trump was "one tough SOB".
Trump was not joined in his surprise appearance by wife Melania – who has been absent from the campaign trail for 18 months – and son Barron.
But his children Eric, Donald Jr and Tiffany were in the crowd as the 78-year-old emerged in public for the first time since he was shot.
Amber Rose said Trump was "kind, generous and funny as hell" when she first met him.
"My message to you tonight comes from a humble place," she said.
"A vote for Donald Trump is a vote to put money back in our pockets and good food on our kids' plates … to make America great again."
Trump joined in a standing ovation when she finished her speech, as the crowd continued to chant: "We want Trump."
