IT’S the women wearing the pants trackside at the Caulfield Cup today, with soft feminine suiting replacing traditional spring dresses on several of the celebrity set, dressed in style for the cool conditions.
Newly engaged style ambassadors Moana Hope, in a custom pink Effie Cat suit, and Isabella Carlstrom in a stunning Zimmerman print suit were stand outs.
Statuesque stunner Gemma Ward also opted for a beautiful Bianca Spender pant suit, as did Lindy Rama Ellis in Dolce and Gabbana blazer and waistcoat, teamed with Scanlan pants and pussy bow shirt.
Gap toothed beauty Jess Hart, a special guest of the Melbourne Racing Club, turned heads in a pretty pink oversized tailored jacket dress from Camilla and Marc.
“I went for a pant suit without the pants,” she joked.
David Jones ambassadors didn’t disappoint with Victoria Lee in a cream Jaquemus dress with sexy thigh high slit, and Jessica Gomes in contemporary new season Dion Lee.
Other celebrity stand outs in the style stakes included Brooke Meredith in fuchsia Ted Baker and Olympia Vallance in a custom Forever New Spanish inspired too and ruffled skirt.
In the headwear department, hats made a strong return over previous favourites of metallic crowns and feathered creations while statement earrings seemed to be as important a must-have as the millinery.
Hart and Hope opted for cool custom creations from celebrity hat maker Nick Fouquet, a special guest from LA.
Early wet conditions didn’t dampen the determined spirit of the lawn dwellers, who revelled in a bold display of racing fashion.
Tight, bright and white was the order of the day with crisp wight dresses the most popular followed by rich reds, hot pinks, cobalt blues and shades of citrusy yellows and greens.
Powdery pastels in mint green, blush pink and pale blue were also prevalent while pretty floral frocks also bloomed trackside.
Many heeded weather forecasts, covering up in structured blazers and trench coats while others ditched floaty spring dresses in favour of pants suits.
A line-up of models were also hot to trot as the David Jones Fashion Stable showcased their current spring collections at their racetrack runway.
