Waterbombing aircraft brought in to tackle grassfire next to Hume Highway

A grass fire broke out next to the Hume Highway in central Victoria on Thursday afternoon.

A section of the Hume Highway was covered in smoke on Thursday as fire crews tackled a grassfire in Broadford in central Victoria.

Firefighters responded to the blaze about 3.55pm along Marchbanks Rd, about 90km north of Melbourne.

Air support was called in, along with 18 vehicles as the fire spread to five acres.

It was declared under control at 4.45pm.

Authorities said it was unclear what sparked the blaze and a fire investigator was due to be arranged to look into the cause.
