“Paramedics worked on the girl, however she sadly died at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious.”

Inverloch holiday-maker and Melbourne woman Helen, who did not want to provide her last name, said she heard screams coming from the pier as air ambulance arrived on scene.

“Paramedics were working on the girl for quite some time,” she said.

“Then a woman started screaming and a man collapsed to the ground.

“They were distraught.”

Wonthaggi Police Sgt Chris Diciero said the accident “involved fishing equipment” but could not provide further comments as the investigation remains ongoing.

Police will prepare a report for the coroner.
