A young girl was taken to hospital and a ride immediately shut down after an incident at the Royal Melbourne Show yesterday.

The primary-aged girl injured her arm while on ‘The Fury’ thriller ride on Tuesday — which will now remain closed until a full investigation has been completed.

It is the first year the ride has appeared at the show.

A spokeswoman for the Royal Melbourne Show confirmed the incident and said the ride had been closed and a full investigation would begin.

“It is with great concern that the Royal Melbourne Show can confirm that there was an injury sustained on ‘The Fury’ ride at approximately 5:30pm yesterday,” the spokeswoman said.

“The ride was shut down immediately and will remain closed until the investigation is complete.

“We are working closely with the ride operator, WorkSafe Victoria and independent engineers to investigate the issue further.

“The health and safety of all visitors to the Royal Melbourne Show is our number one priority.

“Our primary concern remains the well-being of the individual involved and her family.”

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said a primary-aged girl was assessed for arm injuries by on-site paramedics.

“She was taken to the Royal Children’s Hospital in a stable condition,” he said.

The official website for the Melbourne Show encourages carnival-goers to “scream your lungs out on the Fury.”

It describes the ride as the “ultimate thrill-seeker ride.”

“Standing over 40 meters tall, rotating on three axis at speeds up to 125km/h, it definitely isn’t for the faint hearted!” the website reads.

“This terror of a ride is making its first appearance at the 2019 Royal Melbourne Show.”
