A CONTROVERSIAL councillor wants to turn a former nudist beach at Werribee South into the next Gold Coast.

Wealthy businessman and Wyndham councillor Intaj Khan, 44, has revealed his plan to transform Wyndham as he battles to hold his seat in upcoming council elections.

Cr Khan said he dreamt of turning Campbells Cove into a trendy entertainment strip.

Other big-picture plans put forward by one of Victoria’s richest men include the arrival of a major theme park such as Disneyland.

The Indian-born Labor councillor wants Wyndham to start thinking big to match its fast-paced growth, where 85 babies are born each week.

“We have so much land here and so much can be done,” he said.

“We’re close to the city, airport, we have a beach — it’s perfect for a water park or theme park.

“I envisage the foreshore looking like the Gold Coast or St Kilda as it’s one of Victoria’s biggest hidden treasures.

Any plans to redevelop Campbells Cove, which has about 160 foreshore boatsheds, would need state government approval as it is Crown land managed by the council.

Cr Khan, who is building a $10 million mansion in Tarneit, said he wanted to entice other millionaires to make Wyndham home, but said the area needed to improve its road infrastructure and attract at least five top private schools.

The councillor recently came under scrutiny for his expanding property portfolio, but said he had nothing to hide.

“All my Wyndham properties have been declared, but I didn’t think the purchase of Mowbray College in Caroline Springs needed to be declared as it is kilometres away,” he said.

Opposition Local Government spokesman David Davis urged voters to be wary about who they were voting for.
