A POINT Cook soon-to-be father of three hopes live worms in a cooked Costco-bought chicken won’t harm his unborn child or family.
Leon Mo said he bought a $5.98 Steggles chook from the Docklands Costco store about 5.15pm yesterday after his daughter finished ice-skating nearby.
Mr Mo with his pregnant wife, Bei, who is due in two days, and his daughter Rebecca bought the hot chicken, a hot dog and pizza and sat down in the cafe to an early dinner yesterday.
Mr Mo and his wife tucked into a drumstick while Rebecca, 5, ate some chicken breast.
But Rebecca refused to eat some of it, saying to her dad, “there’s worms”.
“At the start I could not see it but there were two of them on that piece,” he said.
“I was really shocked to see live worms in a cooked chicken.
“I (had eaten) a drumstick, my daughter ate a breast piece. I think it was from the breast piece.
“I’ve never seen anything like this. It was really, really bad.”
Mr Mo, who was a chef for 15 years and works in hospitality, said he looked in the package and saw another worm wriggling and believed there were more inside.
He took the chicken to management who gave him a refund and filed a report about the incident, with a follow-up call today to see how he and his family were feeling.
Mr Mo said he had bought chickens at Costco before without issue.
“I really trust big brands but people need to seriously check the quality,” he said.
“They cannot have everything cheap. Check the quality because a surprise can really do damage.”

Mr Mo phoned Melbourne City Council which will take a sample of the chicken.
But he said he hadn’t thought about whether he would return to Costco.
Instead, he was worried it could harm his unborn child, due on Saturday, or his family.
“I was happy until yesterday. She has a check-up tomorrow,” Mr Mo said.
“We went to emergency last night without symptoms for a check-up.
“I do not wish my family have anything. I am worried about my wife, my daughter and myself that they may be inside us. Right now I want my wife, baby and daughter to be safe.”
Costco Wholesale Australia managing director Patrick Noone stated: “We stand by the quality of the food and merchandise we sell at Costco.”
