A WOMAN has died following a two-car collision in Dandenong South earlier this evening.
Police believe the woman was travelling south on the South Gippsland Highway when she drove through the intersection at Pound R just before 5.30pm.
As she travelled through the intersection the front of her Toyota sedan struck another vehicle travelling west on Pound Rd, intending to turn right onto the highway.
After the initial collision the woman’s car was pushed into a traffic-light pole, spinning around and travelling across all northbound lanes of the highway before coming to rest on the grass shoulder.
The woman, a 51-year-old from Clyde North, died at the scene.
A female passenger in the woman’s car was taken to a Melbourne hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The four occupants of the car travelling on Pound Rd were uninjured.
The death brings the number of lives lost on Victoria’s roads to 167 this year compared to 201 this time last year.
