Crikey, Christmas is upon us!
In a sure sign the festive season is just around the corner, Myer has unveiled its 69th Christmas Windows, starring wildlife warriors Terri, Robert and Bindi Irwin.
Twelve months in the making, “An Irwin’s Christmas Story” opens on November 17. It sees Ace the Eagle explore Australia Zoo across six windows at the flagship Bourke St store, crossing oceans and savannas and encountering animals including meerkats, elephants, tiger cubs and crocodiles.
Ace’s journey is narrated by Robert and Bindi who, along with their mum, are represented by detailed and lifelike figurines.
In his 31st year working on the Myer windows, creative and technical director John Kerr and his team have also created 30 distinct animal figures containing custom-built animatronics that allow them to mimic natural movements – from leaping lemurs to grazing giraffes.
And the backdrops have been designed to reflect Australia Zoo’s scenic environment.
Created alongside Stage ONE Productions, they are complemented by an activation on level six of Myer Bourke St. It features a commissioned production from Terrapin Theatre Company titled “Christmas at the Crocoseum”.
The windows and activation are open daily from November 17 until January 5.
