A man has been injured after a group of unruly footy fans punched on during Sunday night’s clash between Carlton and Essendon.

The fight broke between the group about 9.30pm at the MCG.

In a video posted to social media, a man was seen punching a spectator about five times in the face.

It’s understood the spectator was sitting behind the man when the violent brawl erupted.

The crowd yelled at the pair to stop before a drink was thrown at them.

The man was then hit in the back of the head by another spectator before police intervened and escorted him out of his seat.

It’s unclear what caused the fight but Victoria Police said an investigation into the incident remains ongoing after a 36-year-old man sustained minor injuries.

In another incident, a 28-year-old woman allegedly slapped a 16-year-old boy.

“Police spoke to the parties involved, the teenager did not wish to make a complaint,” a Victoria Police spokeswoman said.

“The woman was charged with unrelated offences.”

The spokeswoman said police were “generally pleased with the crowd behaviour” with nine people evicted from the stadium.
