Huge brawl at Melton school

A WILD schoolyard brawl involving dozens of students broke out at a secondary college in Melbourne’s northwest on Tuesday morning.

Violent scenes were captured on film showing students at Staughton College in Melton South punching and kicking each other during a morning recess break.

Cries from the students can also be heard throughout the 30-second clip, which was shared on Snapchat.

A parent told the Herald Sun the school went into lockdown immediately after the melee.

“This seems to be a common thing at the school these days to the point where students are scared,” the parent, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

Another parent said she had received a text message from the school this evening about the incident.

The text message sent to parents by principal David Lord confirmed “there was an altercation involving five students at school today”.

“I want to emphasise, that there is no place for incidents like this at our school,
“It was disappointing to see and certainly does not reflect the behaviour of the overwhelming majority of our students,” the message read.

Mr Lord said “appropriate disciplinary action” will be taken and said no students or staff required medical attention.

Michelle, who did not give her surname, said the fight started after an altercation between two girls and involved up to 80 students.

“I’m so upset for those teachers that had to go through that,” Michelle told 3AW this afternoon.

Police confirmed they patrolled the school area this morning after receiving reports a fight was planned about 11am but did not witness a fight.

Staughton College was last year at the centre of another terrifying incident when an axe-wielding intruder entered the school.

It is understood the school principal David Lord confronted the armed intruder but no one was injured during the incident.

Staughton College has been contacted for comment.
