With Australia Day fast approaching, here’s the ultimate guide to what’s open and when for stores across Melbourne.

With different businesses and franchises operating at various times, it can be slightly confusing trying to figure out what’s open and what’s shut on Australia Day.

The Herald Sun has compiled the ultimate guide on everything you need to know.

It’s set to be grey on Australia Day, with the Bureau of Meteorology predicting cloudy and rainy conditions.

It will reach a top of 22C on Friday with the chance of a shower or two. The weekend will clear with mostly sunny conditions on Saturday and Sunday, with a top of 22C and 25C respectively.

Shopping centres

Victoria’s popular shopping malls will remain open. However shops within the centres may not be open depending on their trading hours.

Chadstone: 9am – 9pm

Eastland: 9am – 9pm

Highpoint: 9am – 9pm

Northland: 10am — 5pm

Southland: 10am — 5pm

Emporium Melbourne: 10am — 6pm

Museums and Art Galleries

Melbourne Museum: 9am – 5pm

Immigration Museum: 10am – 5pm

Scienceworks: 10am – 4.30pm

Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre: 9am – 5pm

Imax Melbourne: The first screening is at 10.20am and the last screening is at 8pm

Supermarkets

Most Coles, Woolworths and Aldi stores will be open with their normal trading hours on Friday with the exception of some stores. Make sure to check your local store’s opening hours before heading out.

Restaurants, bars and cafes

Many restaurants, bars and cafes will be closed or have altered work hours. Please check their website or social media pages for their specific opening hours.

Bottle shops

Dan Murphy’s, BWS, Liquorland, First Choice and Vintage Cellars will all be open and trading on regular hours.

Post offices

In observance of the public holiday, all post offices will be closed on Australia Day.

Public transport

On Australia Day, V/Line train and coach services will operate to a Saturday timetable with some alterations. View the PTV timetables for your specific line or route before you travel.
