What unvaxxed Victorians will be banned from this summer
From swimming to barbecues and live music, many classic Aussie summer ventures will be accessible only to the vaccinated this summer.
Victoria
Don't miss out on the headlines from Victoria. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Unvaccinated Victorians will not enjoy the same freedoms as their double-dosed counterparts this summer, as hobbies and activities are slapped with vax restrictions.
From swimming to barbecues and live music, classic Aussie summer ventures will be accessible only to the vaxxed.
WORK
The state government imposed a tough jab mandate last week, requiring 1.2 million workers on the state’s authorised workers list to receive their first vaccine by October 15 and second by November 26.
But, Commonwealth employees or people who work in connection with court proceedings will be exempt from the mandate.
The Premier said the vaccine mandate will help avoid Victoria’s hospital system becoming overwhelmed.
EDUCATION
All kids will be welcomed back to schools and childcare centres, but other education institutions like university and TAFE will only be accessible in-person for the fully vaxxed.
Those without a jab will have to continue with distance learning, staying online and live streaming their classes.
TRAVEL
Don’t expect to be able to travel without a vax this summer, as Qantas confirms it will ban all passengers on international flights who are not vaccinated, with more airlines expected to follow suit.
Air New Zealand will also require all adult international passengers to be fully vaccinated from February 1 next year.
HEALTHCARE
While you don’t have to be vaxxed to seek care at your local GP, hospital or physiotherapist, private practices can introduce their own vaccination mandates as they please.
SPORT
Don’t expect to be back playing basketball with your over-35s team if you are unvaccinated.
Community team sport is another hobby that is bookmarked for the vaxxed.
RECREATION
This summer, you won’t be allowed to take a dip in a public pool without a vax.
Those who want to pump iron will also require a jab, with gyms reserved for the vaccinated.
Without a vax, those craving a gym endorphin release will have to be satisfied with outdoor personal training sessions.
ATTENDING EVENTS
Although no formal announcements have been made on sporting and entertainment events, it is expected the unvaccinated will be banned from entering.
WINING AND DINING
It will be a romantic dinner for one – outside.
Restaurants, bars, nightclubs, cafes … classic Melburnian pleasures you can forget about without a vaccine.
As usual, all venues will remain open for takeaway; but the quotidian joy of eating out will be restricted.
BEAUTY
If you need your lockdown locks trimmed, you had better book in your first dose.
Hair and beauty services will be strictly for the double-dosed, with facials, lashes and brows withheld from the unjabbed.
LIBRARIES AND MUSEUMS
Perusing your local library or drifting through a gallery are set to be cultured joys for the vaxxed only.
Melbourne City council has announced all staff, contractors and visitors must be fully vaccinated by November 5.
This includes all libraries, recreation centres, community facilities, and administration offices such as Town Hall.
Other Victorian councils are expected to follow suit, in line with the state government road map that was released on September 19.
RELIGION
All religious services, such as church, synagogue and mosque, will be open only for the vaxxed.
Worshippers neglecting the jab will have to remain online as their counterparts gather in person.
