A major smash on the West Gate Bridge caused traffic mayhem on Wednesday morning as drivers faced long delays.
The crash involved multiple vehicles just before 10am on Wednesday.
Multiple lanes of the bridge were closed as emergency services responded.
Four out of the five citybound lanes on the West Gate Bridge are closed due to a multi-vehicle collision. Delays are building quickly with queues back to Grieve Parade. Try using Geelong Road to avoid the delays on the West Gate Freeway. #victrafficpic.twitter.com/liIlaPBaFp

Motorists were encouraged to use Geelong Road as an alternative to avoid the delays, which stretched back to the Princes Freeway in Laverton.
All citybound lanes on the West Gate Bridge reopened about 11am.
The Department of Transport issued a statement thanking motorists for their patience while crews worked to clear the incident.
