Footy legend Sam Newman has delivered a furious rant aboard his boat Angst over former Victorian premier Dan Andrews’ King’s Birthday honour, declaring AC must mean “absolute cr-p’.

Footy legend Sam Newman has delivered a furious rant over former Victorian premier Dan Andrews’ King’s Birthday honour, declaring AC clearly stood for “absolute crap”.

In a video filmed at sea, Newman said: “If you want to know what AC stands for — this is Dan Andrews getting one — what it means (is) absolute crap. Here’s a government that tried to woo the electorate by going for the Commonwealth Games. Won the election and then cancelled the games. Say no more. How would you give anyone an award for that? You cannot be serious!”

The decision to recognise Mr Andrews with the nation’s highest honour, the Companion of the Order of Australia (AC), for his service to Victoria, public health, policy and regulatory reform, and to infrastructure development, sparked widespread backlash this week.

Polling shows 95 per cent of Herald Sun readers don’t think he deserves the award and even one of Mr Andrews’ own former ministers told the Herald Sun that families of loved ones who died during the state’s deadly second Covid wave were justified to feel angry about it.

A petition has now been launched calling for the former premier to be stripped of the King’s Birthday honour.

Newman delivered his rant aboard his boat Angst, which he is sailing with his friend Sue Stanley to far north Queensland.

The pair have endured “horrendous weather and huge sea swells” on the high seas, causing a porthole to blowout, flooding and more.

Newman and Stanley left Queenscliff harbour on May 27 and are heading to the Whitsunday Islands, raising awareness for the Rule Prostate Cancer organisation along the way.
