IT may be a long shot, but flamboyant footy icon Warwick Capper has brewed plans to transform Melbourne’s popular cafe scene.
The high-flying star today launched Cappercinos, a mobile coffee van business that will serve Capper’s signature blend to coffee-lovers across metropolitan Melbourne.
The lovable larrikin is used to copping a mugging on the footy field, but expects his new venture to have customers “froffing at the mouth”.
Capper, 51, said he would be travelling through Melbourne’s bayside towards Port Melbourne for much of the summer, personally grinding coffee beans for punters at $4.20 a cup.
“Warwick Cappercinos would be the best in Melbourne, just like me,” Capper, who now lives in Balwyn, said.
“It’s got great texture, they’re great coffee beans and it’s all quality Australian-made products at a good price, too.
Capper, with business partner Charlie Salerno, have a fleet of customised vans available for budding investors who want to work alongside the Sydney Swans great.
Each van, adorned in signage with Capper’s long, blond locks, will also sell cafe-style food and be available for hire at events.
“I’ll be like Mr Whippy but with Cappercinos,” he said.
“We’ll be going to junior footy clubs and beaches, and will try to donate some money to the struggling footy teams as well.”
Staff will be styled in Capper’s famous tight leopard-print shorts.
Capper, who became a cultural icon for his aerial exploits in his 124-match career for Sydney and Brisbane, has a long CV since retiring from footy at 29.
He has been a stripper, porn star, pop singer, movie actor, road worker, real estate agent, meter maid, road worker, and an unsuccessful mayoral candidate.
And Capper highlighted an interest in cutting into the hairdressing industry by opening salons across Melbourne.
Punters can purchase a personalised franchise for $120,000 to $180,000.
