Shocking footage has emerged of a man appearing to whip another man with a belt in Melbourne’s CBD after a verbal altercation on a bus.
The Sunday Herald Sun has been told the fight, on a train replacement bus, began about 4pm on Saturday after a man wearing a beanie demanded to be let off the express service before the scheduled stop at Parliament Station.
The man appears to yell at the driver as two male passengers intervene.
At one point, the man in the beanie can be heard saying to the other men: “Okay, let’s get off the bus then and sort it out.”
“I know martial arts, I know defence mate.”
A witness claimed a mother and baby where caught up in the fracas and asked to be let off the bus before moving toward the back of the vehicle.
A scuffle started after the men exited the bus at Parliament Station.
The man with the belt, who said his name was Matt, told the Sunday Herald Sun: “I told him that there were lots of people on the bus, and that he needs to wait for the bus to stop at the destination.
“He was scaring other passengers.
“He went right up next to the driver and started to yell at him
“He kept yelling, someone had to stop him and I tried to do my best.
“I tried the nice way and he didn’t understand, and then we had a little bit of a punch on.
“I tried to talk nice to him but he didn’t understand.”

Another witness said he saw the man in the beanie pick up a metal barrier from the street as passengers exited the bus.
It is understood Protective Service Officers were called to the bus stop, but the passenger involved had already left.
None of the men involved were known to each other.
A Metro Trains spokeswoman said: “We are investigating an incident that occurred on a replacement bus service on Saturday afternoon.”
Victoria Police were not notified, a spokeswoman said.
