An ugly road rage altercation has taken place between cyclists and a driver on Beach Road in St Kilda.
On Saturday 21 August, Lee Turner was cycling in the bike lane with his mates as a man driving a silver Mercedes continually sought to cut off the riders.
“When we pulled up at the lights, he was screaming and yelling abuse at us,” Mr Turner said.
“He reversed his car and hit my bike, and then he caught my front wheel and dragged me along.”
The group of cyclists were attempting to note his registration number when the man lurched, catching cyclist Chris Papakostas on the bonnet of the vehicle.
Mr Papakostas was thrown onto the road and his bike flattened under the wheels.
“Cyclists are used to cars coming too close, but this was so dangerous,” Mr Turner said.
The man threatened to hit and abuse the cyclists before speeding off.
The incident was reported to police and enquiries are ongoing.
