PUBLIC transport fares will rise by 3.2 per cent from New Year’s Day.
The average two-hour fare will be $3.90 next year, up from $3.76, while a zone one and two daily ticket will rise from $7.52 to $7.80.
PTV said the fare adjustments — which also included several changes to benefit regional travellers — were fairly aligned with the consumer price index.
“(It will) contribute to ongoing investment in a number of major public transport projects including the removal of 50 level crossings, Melbourne Metro Rail Project, and new trains and trams that will increase capacity across the network,” PTV said in a statement.
A full-fare zone one and two weekly myki pass will cost $39 next year, an increase of $1.40.
But weekend myki fares will remain capped at $6 for all-day travel in zones one and two.
PTV also said regional commuters would be given extended travel times for their fares across certain zones.
