Victoria is home to the most amount of people to have won big in the lottery, according to new data.

More than 700 Victorians have had a division one win between 2015 and 2019 — pocketing a whopping $1.3 billion.

But in a bizarre twist Victoria appears to not be the luckiest state with New South Wales punters pocketing more per win. Just over 60 top prize winners were from New South Wales and the ACT, but they took home a total jackpot of $1.8 billion — $500 million more.

According to a Tattslotto spokesman the prize pool disparity was due to recent record wins in 2019 after changes were made to how the lottery was drawn.

These include the $150 million Powerball draw in September being the biggest jackpot ever offered by an Australian lottery game.

In January a Sydney mum in her 40s won $107 million in Powerball — the biggest individual prize ever won by an Australian. The healthcare worker said she did not intend to quit her job straight away.

Last year was the biggest on record for Australia with 449 division one winning entries winning a combined total of $1.46 billion.
