DOES Daniel Andrews even look at his own Facebook page?
The answer appears to be no after the Premier was caught out trying to be down with the kids in an awkward social media fail.
The 44-year-old father of three this morning posted a plug for his Grand Final public holiday on a Facebook event at Fitzroy’s Laundry Bar tonight.
DJs will be spinning hits from Canadian rapper Drake and superstar singer Rihanna, so Mr Andrews — or, more accurately, his staff — mocked up a version of a Drake album cover to say: “If you’re reading this it’s Grand Final Friday eve.”
Less than an hour later, the Premier was asked at a press conference if he had a favourite Drake song.
The Labor leader and golf enthusiast blanked and answered: “No, I don’t think I do.”
When 3AW reporter Lauren Hilbert pointed out that the Premier had just posted about the Drake event on Facebook, he responded: “Have I?”
“We’re often commenting about a whole range of different matters,” Mr Andrews said.
“I’ve been overseas for the last few days and there’s been a whole lot of posts go up from China where the person who necessarily posted it wasn’t in China.”
“I was though and I was only too happy to communicate with them. Again, you’ve caught me on the hop, and if that’s the biggest story of the day, thank you very much.”
Thousands of people had liked Mr Andrews’s Facebook post, describing him as “Dan the man” and a “loose” bloke.
“Daniel Andrews SO in touch with the youth, he’s like (Canadian Prime Minister Justin) Trudeau on steroids,” one person commented.
Mr Andrews regularly includes pop culture references in his Facebook posts.
But when it comes to Drake, the Premier has got some work to do. At least he’s given himself tomorrow off to catch up.
And Mr Andrews always has the option of turning to his federal Labor counterpart Bill Shorten for advice. Enough said.
