Victorian mum wakes from coma after flu scare

A VICTORIAN flu patient who did not know she had given birth because doctors had put her in a coma is now in a stable condition.

A VICTORIAN flu patient who did not know she had given birth because doctors had put her in a coma is now in a stable condition.

The Alfred Hospital confirmed that Sarah Hawthorn’s condition has improved.

She had been fighting for life in a coma for months after complications as a result of the flu.

Sarah, 33, gave birth on August 28 in an emergency procedure after she was taken to hospital.

In a statement released today her family said: “After three months in intensive care, Sarah’s condition has improved and she is now stable.”

“Her son is fit and healthy.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of the community, and all the kind wishes we have received.

The family thanked everyone at The Alfred and the intensive care unit for their dedication to Sarah.

“It has been a big journey for our family and at this stage, while Sarah is in recovery, we won’t be making any further comment.

“During Sarah’s rehabilitation, we ask that you please continue to respect our privacy.”
